It has not been officially delayed. I believe it is sort of up in the air at this point... if all goes well, we might be seeing the 9/30 release, but, if not, a little bit after that.

why do games get delayed in the first place? there just not finished yet? or what happens? because it seems like HL2 is done but there just playtesting and playtesting i think they did enough playtesting. there isnt that much need for it

I think it's delayed but we won't see a release date, just a "It's gone gold and it will be on shelves in two weeks" announcement.

I think Valve may go literary into "When it's done" mode. They'll just overshot a bit but it will be released as soon as they can. They won't make another release date target.

But that's just my opinion.
