Deletion of Post Count

I think that was an incredibly low, imature and unprofessional thing to do.

That's funny, because I thought those were the circumstances of your behaviour that lead us to do it in the first place.

Back in the day, post counts where not visible...because morons where spamming to reach a higher post counts compared with other members, and starting threads like:

"OMG, lik3 i orz g0t a high p05t c0unt!11one"

The mods could easily disable the post count if we wanted :), post counts should be disabled again IMO ;) hehe

Ahahahaha @D

PAM! not spam PAM!!

I dont really look at my post count anyway it's just like your comp specs just stroking the e penis!

"I think that was an incredibly low, imature and unprofessional thing to do."

What? Starting a thread in GENERAL DISCUSSION on a GENERAL TOPIC

Oh good god forbid! Eeek!

Really?

I thought it was an incredibly funny, greatly amusing and very fitting thing to do. Hehehehe.

But seriously, who gives a shit about post counts? They don't mean anything besides the fact that some people happen to like talking on forums more than other people. If it were up to me I wouldn't even have them displayed at all, as I still see people using them as an excuse to judge other's opinions.

I don't really get what your complaining about. Low? Immature? Unprofessional? They only changed a little number next to your name that has no real significance. I'm not seeing the problem.

You couldn't be more wrong.

Ok imagine the situation. You're a total noob to the forum, you don't know wth is going on, you don't know what HL2 info is real and what isn't.

You are you going to believe? The guy with 3000 posts or the guy with 30?

That's exactly the kind of attitude we don't want to convey. People with larger post counts aren't the more experienced, they could just as equally be an idiotic spammer. The noobs should be more trusting the members that have resided on the forum for longer.

Ya, like Abom said, post count has little to do with it. Experience is more likely a factor of having been around the forums for longer. Just because someone chooses not to post doesn't mean they don't read all the pertinent info on the forum. Anyway, you still have your join date so people can tell how long you've been around.

But with the great selection of mods and admins here spammers rarely last long :)

Just look at moddb.com, there was threads like that all over the place before i left. We dont want it like that

(Everybody know that moddb is the source of all spam in the world)

Yes, you're right, i dont like moddb.

I originally planned to do it as a joke, then change it back.

But your comments in this thread (combined with your reply to Majestic XII in your last thread), and the recommendations of some other staff members has changed my mind.

Indeed, examples like this are exactly why we turned them off in the first place.

ya know Munro made it quite clear back in April (when the site came back online) that mod/staff members would delete post counts at the slightest of the kind of thread u started.. so really its ur problem that u didn't read that.

now to be fair, i have seen quite abit of the "in before close" posts or variations of that for the last month at least... and it has not only been annoying.. but i thought the mods would do something about it (post count deletion, warnings) and i still think something should be done about that.

oh well Mr.Magnetichead u got what u deserved.

How about if we catch anyone saying in before close, we ban them? :E

'in before close' has got to be the most pointless and annoying thing.....it's the internet, no-one cares!

hey thats fine by me...seriously tho.. it gets annoying with the "in before close" posts when the thread is actually a pretty decent read.

After one mistake?

when Munro stated about the post counts in April.. the general feeling of that thread was there would be a no tolerance policy.

plus its common sense.. whats the point of creating a "look at my post count" thread?

I think the mods aer right on this one, Brian Damage is the spam just to get 5000 posts....

My vote - delete the post counts of public view.

Hey I'm pretty much more of a lurker here, and I too vote for not showing post counts.

Personally, I don't care either which way, but, with post counts disabled, it's so much more of a happy surprise when you raise a rank :)
