I know that the Descent series was before some of your time, but I thought it was one of the best play control concepts created on the PC (no direction is up, you have full 3-axis, 360 degrees of freedom movement). The last Descent game was made in 1999, and due to legal reasons between the people claiming rights to the game and a lack of revenue, a Descent 4 will probably not be made ever.

But imagine what the game would be like under today's hardware! I would have spent, like, forever playing it. Anyone else feel this way? Or am I just spouting nostalgia about a somewhat obscure game?

I replayed decent 2 a few months ago, decent was class, but really short.

Descent 2 was difficult for me to play when it came out. Must have been my age but the only thing I could do was pick up the two guys in the first level, then I'd get lost or blow the ship up. I never gave the game a second chance because I ended up enjoying DOOM much more.

I think the challenge of having to conceptualize a map in 3D was too much for some people. What they really did wrong in 3 was not including much human contact, though this installment was plenty capable of it. No in-game radio contact with the characters in the game, hell you only see a human being outside of the cinematics once or twice in the whole game. Really kept the game from having personality. Except for the little GuideBot buddy, who used that fire extinguisher of his so many fires on my ship, all the while letting out his cheerful R2D2-like chirping ... classic.

It was a really good shooter, but navigating in the 3 dimensions is hard.

I played all 3 games but I don't think I'd play a 4th unless they added some features. By the 3rd one I was already thinking it was too samey. I had some great fun playing, I think it was the 2nd, on LAN. But again, they would need to do more than just add some new weapons and stuff.

I agree, all three games were pretty similar aside from an increase in polycount.

I think that with the changes in technology since the last game, they could come up with at the least some special gimmick. Just imagine what a proper physics engine alone would do for the game. And I don't know if I dare say it because it goes against Descent tradition, but perhaps getting out and taking a jetpack through areas like an astronaut might be cool. You know, work in some FPS elements for some change of pace.

I dunno. I just wish that D3 had more than what was basically a "cult following" in order to motivate developers.

I don't think I would've played it. I tried the first one when it had just come out, I think, but it was too hard

Every Decent game so far is awesome..the story was great, and the gameplay exceeded that fun.

Decent II was my fav.

Descent kicked ass with a joystick.
I nearly trashed the game when I had to play with a keyboard.
Descent 4, NEEEEEEEDS to be made.
