This is something I've been working on all day long. Made it all from scratch. I designed everything with the exception of the Orc image.

I think this is the best artistic thing I have ever done, and am very proud of it!

Easily able to swap out a new image for the members of the guild I'm in as well as able to change the names and still have them retain the look of how it is in there with mine, as I remember and wrote down the steps I took to get there.

I can tell from the lighter texture of these forums that I need to clean up the transparency a bit around the edges in some spots... but that's easy enough to do.

Thanks! Updated it a tiny bit more, trying to get to a satisfying final image. I've put so much love into this... was fun making it! <3

:D Thanks.

I was fooling around in photoshop this morning and decided to add in a bunch of other images to get some practice in extracting an image I like from it's background... a couple of them were a tiny bit difficult, but I pulled it off!

Note: None of them have names, because this was just a test to see how quickly and effectively I could add in more images.

By the way all these images are gifs and thus don't have a dropshadow or anything since the board that I will be having these on has a filesize limit and they don't seem to like PNGS that well... not to mention the PNG that allows real nice transparency effectively doubles the sizes of these images... which is about double what it can be.

Really nicely made! Lol, your "fooling around" beats my serious works!

I'm actually not that good at all with artistic things, but I like what I've accomplished so far.

Here's another one I just threw together in about 10 minutes. I'm getting better and better and stripping these from their backgrounds and cleaning up the edges all around so they look nice, usually dealing with pixels lighter in color.

Make the Bright Wizard a bit larger if you can. They're probably the best ****ing class in the game; they deserve the size of a God.

It's a bit difficult when I work with images like that... limited by a 500x150 pixel size and the stone part of my image is only a few pixels smaller than that on top and bottom so somebody like that wizard who is a bit small is really tough to do when they have a weapon like that extending so far up that I want to include in the image(Trying to not clip anything off above the image).

And yeah most of those are Warhammer Online concept art images... I saw those and I was thinking... damn, those look freaking fantastic!

The game I'm designing these signatures for that my guild is going to be playing though, is not Warhammer but rather Darkfall online. Was just using those images to test :)

Bevel and emboss are the ugliest text properties to use, ever.

I like the top one best, the guy with the hammer.

No! Die Pesh. Die in a fire! I love Bevel. Yes it can be overdone and I'm definitely guilty of it, but I set out intending there to be text bevel on this text as part of what I had in my mind to create.

Besides... I don't know how to do anything else. :(

And also I'm one of those unsophisticated types... completely clueless to the elitism of the art world. Because of that, even the crappiest bevels and drop shadows look good to me. :o

looks good in my opinion. im hopeless when it comes to art on a computer, but i can draw
quite well.

It's a phase- you'll learn that nearly all layer and text blending options are worthless (although you should still know what they all do and when to use them).

I'm not an artfag by any stretch of the imagination, but I do know a thing or two about Photoshop and what looks good.

Concentrate on flatness if you're going to web graphics. Especially when you're trying to clash 2D and 3D objects (such as the case of your 2D character portraits and your 3D text). Also, pick a better color scheme.

• Your colors are ugly. The brown, green, and yellow don't mesh well together.
• Get rid of those outer glows on your characters- learn to clean their edges better using the magnetic lasso. (you'll notice that outer glow really lets those jaggies shine)
• "the fringe" on the bottom left is difficult to read.
• that icon in the upper left is a tad weird. Get rid of it.

Man Pesh you're making me cry! Your critique is like acid thrown on my face!

<runs off sobbing>

? Your colors are ugly. The brown, green, and yellow don't mesh well together.

Ignore the image colors... they are going to be an unknown variable as my guildmates decide what pic they want. I can't tailor a design to unknown image choices.

I didn't know what colors to use so I just made a brown stone background thing that I made from scratch... I don't know what colors to use for some of the other stuff... I wanted The Fringe wording to sort of be less prominent in the whole image and not contrast too much, with more focus on the names that will be there.

? Get rid of those outer glows on your characters- learn to clean their edges better using the magnetic lasso. (you'll notice that outer glow really lets those jaggies shine)

The edges are actually cleaned up nicely in my PSD. I did the darker outer glow on the two beast images to darken up the edges a little since I wasn't liking how bright the image was along the edges as it seemed to contrast too harshly with the background, I and liked how it looked as a result. I didn't think it looked bad... it wasn't to hide up ugly edges I swear!

? "the fringe" on the bottom left is difficult to read.

Really?

? that icon in the upper left is a tad weird. Get rid of it.

I made it cracked up to mesh more with the design like with the giant crack running through it where I made the background cracked, but other than that there's not a whole lot I can do with the image... it's the guild symbol right now.

This is it from my guild's website on the left. It's a composition of two symbols from the shadowbane mmorpg.

I like it. The bevel+emboss doesnt bother me much, and I dont think "The Fringe" is hard to read at all. The edges could be cleaned up better, and I think saving them as png files rather than gif will help. The logo is good, but it seems weird that its cracked in the exact same way as the ground underneath it, and also the pieces are not separated at all. I would probably either go the whole nine yards and actually make it look as if it broke into two pieces, or just not put the crack through it at all.

Something I would try on some of the characters in there, is bump up their saturation a little bit to make them stand out a bit more. Its very possible that it would make it look worse though, or draw your attention too much, so I would make sure it works before calling it "done".

I would love to save them as PNG to make the edges and stuff be better... the problem is the forum that they will be hosted on have like an 80kb limit and when they are done with PNG all the transparent areas show up as white. Maybe I could just save them out as PNG with the matte color the same as the forums there so I can make them look nicer, but I dunno.
