Desktop Carnivorous Plant Set -

Wow. That is kick-ass in the extreme. Gotta get me one of those!! Or maybe a few!! :D

Nice! Once I had one carnivous plant but smaller. This thinkgeek.com is really intersting webiste.

Gah! i was gonna get that a while back, but i didn't have the money, now i do, but i can't spend it! damn you all!

They'll die easily if you give them the wrong conditions, you'd find about 2 of them actually grow and it'll look like shit.

I just ripped that site apart and DAMN, every single spare penny that I have when I'm going to work will go to buying crap like that.

My brother had a seed for a venus fly-trap, although he still hasn't planted it.

I love thinkgeek.com, has the coolest, most useless things ever!!! =)

Anyone know if these flytraps can live off just dirt and water like regular plants... in the case they dont find any insects?

Edit: Googled it and yes, yes they do.

I've got a bunch of carnivorous plants at home, they're very very easy to look after as long as you have somewhere warm and sunny enough for them to grow. I had flytraps, a few different sundews, some trumpet pitchers, but my favourite one was this big vine type one that had massive hanging pitchers. Only problem is most of them go dormant and completely die off during winter time.

Venus flytraps will die on you. Well for me they do anyways. I put them in perfect conditions too, I keep the lid on, in a warm environment, sitting in a dish with barely any water in the dish (don't wanna over water it). And I heard that it takes energy to digest the critters so you should'nt feed them right away because they are going through shock. But even if I don't put a bug in them they still die. Usually I put in a bug and it closes up and that it. About 3 weeks later the plant dies and I do an autopsy on the head. I find the bug completely unharmed, its like the thing starved to death. The thing is supposed to digest it in 24h but instead it just dies. I was tempted to buy these traps one time at a science museum. They genetically altered them and the heads were HUGE! The heads width was pratically an inch wide!

Shoulda seen the spines on the sucker too. Anyways Venus Flytraps have always died on me. And they are common to get at your local plant store so look for them. Any advice on your miracle stories? I live in Massachusetts btw but I keep it away from the window and have the heat on to keep it warm.

well a couple of pointers would be a) sit it in a deep saucer of water(and make sure its always full), theres not much chance of overwatering them, they can live almost completely submerged, since they grow naturally in boggy swampy areas. and b)never feed it dead bugs, because the leaves need to register constant movement for a while so it knows to start digesting cos its got a food source, not just a piece of dirt or whatever. and its not a 24 hr digestive period, more like 1-2 weeks. also, each trap can only open and close a few times before that leaf dies, so dont go ****ing around sticking shit in just to see it close, cos thats an easy way to kill your plant

[edit] it also helps to have one of those misting bottles to spray them with cos they like a very sunny warm environment, but also a very humid one :)

I bought this from that website a few months back. It was pretty shitty actually. It comes with a small bag of random seeds, dirt, and a cheap plastic housing. You get like 3 tiny fake lizards as well. You'd be better off just finding a place that sells carnivorous seeds for alot cheaper.

Btw, It was very hard to get anything to grow. I live in Florida, USA which is prime weather for these types of plants. So it will take alot of work...not to mention these plants take a long time to mature.

LAWL. I like how the outlet cover is upside down.

There really no right or wrong way to have the outlets positioned. You'll notice the outlets in hospitals are all "upside down" to prevent metal objects from falling onto the energized prongs.

I know that. I'm just used to seeing them in every building I go into, including all the houses i've lived in... being reversed from what is in the image.

Unless it's eight feet tall and sprouts lightsabers, it's not l33t enough for me.
Daisies, now they kick ass! :sniper:
