Deus Ex 1 bug need help

I'm on the first mission, and I can't switch weapons or tools. I start off, and can switch weapons just fine, but as soon as I pick up more weapons it stops working, and won't let me switch. I try pressing '1' for example to switch to my pistol but all it does is make a white box around the pistol icon, while he's still holding the knife. I try pressing '7' to switch to the sniper rifle and it does the same thing, just makes a white outline around the sniper rifle icon while still holding the knife or whatever item he's holding. So basically I can't switch off the knife and I'm supposed to cut my way through all those bad guys (pun intended) to get to the top of the statue.

Also, I can switch weapons no problem in the training mission...but in the real first mission it won't let me switch. I have the latest 1.112 patch and I have beat the game before without this problem. I have tried starting a new game and it didn't work. I also checked the controls in the keyboard menu and they are fine, like I said switching weapons works perfectly in the training mission. Can anyone help. thanks if you can

Like I said, I tried restarting the game. Multiple times actually. It had no effect. And yes I know the first level is the statue of liberty

em at the risk of being insulting did you select and then click with the mouse to arm?
short of that you may have to reinstall
Deus Ex is a VERY bugged game, I doubt that will be the last you'll see
My favourite was going up to a door that would not open that I knew was the only option on the Hong Kong level after running around the map for hours trying to find where I went wrong (the curse of having just one continuous save-game). I left the game running in frustration, came back an hour later to find JC dead and the door open ;(

I tried that, it just fires/swings the weapon he has in his hand at the moment. I'm uploading a video as I type this that I recorded in fraps to show the problem.

Can you equip through the inventory?

No it won't let me do that either, except if I use the inventory to drop the weapon I'm holding it will automatically switch to another, which it won't let me change from that.

Good news guys! I reinstalled the game and patch, and it works fine! I don't know what was wrong with it before, but it works now. Thanks for all the help

I'll tell you the truth: I've never had any problems with Deus Ex. Glad to hear you fixed your problem though.

Very Bugged game? ok....So your saying in the years iv been playing that game i should have ran into more then 1 bug? Iv beat the game 10+ times and the only bug is the keypad bug on 1 level on 1 keypad.

Haven't seen any of that, but its the Keypad that you can keep entering the code and you get infinite exp points. Its the part where you are droped off and the pilot dies.

luck of the draw I guess - BF2 for me is flawless, for some its unplayable, HL2 was hell for me to get working and play, for most here it played perfectly :|
