Deus Ex 3 news....

It's probably gonna suck.

I think it goes without saying that it's going to suck.
Unless they make it so Deus Ex 2 never happened.

It'd be nice to see deus ex 1 gameplay with modern graphics and a different story

Sadly, not gonna happen...

"Deus Ex 3 is currently under developed at Eidos Montreal and will be published by Eidos Interactive on a number of consoles in 2009."

GTA IV was first betatested on consoles too.

No one has the time or freedom to make a game as long and deep as the first Deus Ex anymore, I reckon the only relation it will have to the franchise is having biomods.

I would love to be wrong however.

Well atleast let us play as JC Denton! When I started Deus Ex 2 I was like, so when can I play JC? Then it hit me like a brick wall.

Just give us the feeling, hell everything what made Deus Ex 1 so great. Screw the graphics, could be made with the Deus Ex 1 engine, don't care.

Bakurei, all info so far indicates it's a prequel taking place before JC was even 'born'.

Just FYI.

Really? What about that crazy trailer then? o_O

No jc? :'( CRYYYYYYYY

Well it won't kill the game :P

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I bet they'll go for graphics over game play and do what Oblivion did to Morrowind.

I prefered the original game; the gameplay was more flexible towards play styles and the levels were nowhere near as restrictive as DE2

i'm quite positive it will suck. complexity and modern games don't go hand in hand today.

DeusEX 1 is way too complex for your average everyday console gamer. forget it, it's not gonna happen.

take bioshock as an example...same watered down disappointment.

Totally agreed. Far are the days of hard core PC gaming.

I don't really understand how Deus Ex was "complicated" gameplay-wise... it was actually pretty simple, and... kinda sucky. It's just one of the few games that's actually been "finished". They actually put some effort into making some non-mandatory areas and actual different paths to the same objectives. I say "actual" because most games usually just fake it... and not well (I'm looking at you Mass Effect and your dialogue "options" that all have my character say the same damn thing anyway). They say "oh you can kill him or bribe him or help him" (unless you're Mass Effect, then just have an option to kill him but then have something intervene so it goes how it's supposed to go) and it all leads to the exact same thing, whereas in Deus Ex your choices actually made a difference. And it's not like it's that hard to do... it's just the small touches like NPCs having actual conversation, having the woman you walked in on in the women's bathroom mention it to a coworker later, having your boss say "why did you do it this way when I SAID to do it this way?! Idiot!"... how hard was it for them to add a few lines of dialogue and a few nooks and crannies to explore?! Not much, yet it makes all the difference...

Plus, they had that bitchin' music and sound effects that fit everything so well. :P

Everything else was so good that you didn't care that the combat was very, very awkward... and that most of your biomods are useless. Regeneration is the only good one actually... speed and armor had a couple of uses throughout the whole game, and then they were only useful if you're lazy like me and just wanted to run through an area without having to fight. You really just wanted to see what was going to happen next...

Oh and I can't talk about Deus Ex without mentioning Deus Ex 2's horrible, horrible graphics engine that absolutely ruined everything. It actually wasn't a bad effort for working with such utter shit.

(It's very late and I think I may have just rambled without making a very good point...)

Deus Ex had terrible combat, really don't understand your love for it, Asuka.
The combat was pure shit, everything felt clunky and unwieldy or just didn't feel like you were actually firing a gun or using a knife.

Yeah let's all blame it on the console players, let's not forget the fact that (one of) the best selling PC game(s) ever is The Sims, that alone speaks volumes about people who play games on the PC too..

I'm so sick of you bloody Bolshevist bastards blaming it on us console-gamers.

I'm gonna agree that Deus Ex really wasn't very complicated. As RPGs go there are a lot of modern ones with a more complex leveling/progression system. The "action" aspects are definitely far simpler (and far worse) than today's games.

I think people are confusing complexity with depth. Deus Ex had depth, and that's what made it stand out. The reason modern games lack this depth is because the production values required to produce a ton of optional content which most people won't see on their first (and in most cases only) playthrough is significant, hence why they railroad players through a very structured story. The compromise they've come up with (as someone stated earlier) is providing players with the illusion of choice and depth, which if done well can be effective but more often leaves the player unsatisfied.

It's likely that Deus Ex 3 won't break with the modern trend, but there's always hope, and it'll probably be a decent game anyway.

Trivia: if you listen to the song 'A Little Bit, Sometimes' by the band M?m, you may recognise the Deus Ex main theme riff near the beginning (1:10) and the end (3:25) of the song!

A coincidental similarity, in my opinion. Just a few notes with an instrument that sounds similar.

I loved it! I loved having to crouch for 2 mins to be able to shoot someone at the start, then work my way up to having a shotgun as acc. as a sniper. I dont know i mean games like this will probably never be made again. What brings my hope up alittle is that STALKER gets somewhat close to the gameplay of Deus Ex. Lets hope more games come out like it.

Reminds me the theme used in Paris levels.
