I received this email about Hellgate: London, it will be interesting to see how they pull this off. With the fact that this game will be played out in First Person.

http://www.pczone.co.uk/news/news_story.php?id=116633

Unfortunately, no screenshots to drool over, but if the article is anything to go by, it will indeed be an interesting blend of Fantasy, Sci-fi as well as the impending "Oh no, the world is going to end" vibe

Yea, I brielfy read it, I knew it was done by Ex-Blizzard staff but they kept mentioning Diablo which made me presume...

The Pc:G article has tones of screenshots. 7 page thing :).
This game could go either way. Be star stunning plain amazing or Break.
I trust Bill Roper and his team but, we will see.

spiritual sucessor to diablo, all the guys who quit north + bill r. are doing it. If diablo were to have another game in it's universe, this is it.

Guess your talkin about PC GAMER US, theres no mention in the UK edition, how does it look, graphics and gameplay wise??

Yeah I read about this, has nothing to do with Diablo... I can't be assed to read the entire article but the writers are just comparing it to Diablo
the game being described in general terms as Diablo gone first-person and thrust into post-apocalyptic hell

Ive seen some screens in mah that delicious pc mag people shove in my mail slot every month. Looks good. :D

This game actually looks pretty good, and I hate RPGs. :O

Edit: I want one of those suits.

It was merely a comparison. He said it would be LIKE Diablo. The guy is an ex-Blizzard employee who started a new company. This isn't Diablo 3, but I'm sure the real Diablo 3 will be announced soon.

But I've read that this game takes everything that made Diablo Diablo, and puts it into first person 3D.

So that's co-op multiplayer, randomly generated dungeons, skill upgrade trees, hundreds of collectable items - which can be fused together for stat modifiers - and so on.
It is basically Diablo 3, under a different name. :)

Which is great as far as I'm concerned - I loved Diablo 2! Bring it on.

Screenshots from PCG UK make it look fking ace :D

I like the architecture and monster detail, but I'm not particulary impressed with the NPC's.

I was also hoping that you would actually recognise the key landmarks of London, rather than having a random map generator and not knowing where the feck the best route is. It sounds like they are being lazy, even Act of War was able to pull of level design pretty well

Screw this game, I want an actual Diablo 3! (3D this time)

No!! 3D ruins all 2D games! (except FF7...)

FF7 is psuedo 3D in places mind. (Awful) 3D models on 2D backgrounds for most of the game. Apart from my actual preference for FF6 over FF7, I actually think 6 has better graphics in a number of ways...

And why did the thread title make me think "Fallout"? Twas a game I always wanted to play...

And why did Diablo ever get popular anyway? And any Blizzard games for that matter? I never have been able to "get a feel" for their stuff...

One thing that really bothers me in this game; is that you don't get to aim like normal fps games, you point in the general direction of the monster and shoot, your character sheet and stats will determine wether you score a hitshot or miss.

Pretty much the same as Diablo tbh - the combat is point-and-click. It's not like a normal fps game, because it isn't one.
The fun is in the character customisation, the huge array of weapons/spells/armour to trade and collect, and the co-operative nature of it.

Hopefully this gameplay template won't look outdated now... in the era of full-blown MMORPGs....

I personally love Diablo, Diablo II, and Warcraft II. War3 was fun, but not the same.

Diablo II just has so much...depth, you could say, and yet, so simple.

It's more of a "I can't beat those lvl 80 bastards yet, but when I get my armor, Mwuha, BWUAHAHAHAHAHA THEIR XP WILL BE MINE!!!!

D2 has very little depth in terms of story...
D1 actually dosn't have such a bad story.
The background story(s) to Diablo 1.....breathtaking.

Well lets go back to Warcraft 1...there was simply no other RTS like it. It's gameplay was unmatched..
Warcraft 2 came along...amazing!! Gameplay brought to new standards.
Diablo came along also bringing the mopaq(mpq) format(used by all blizzard games now), this game simply...it was fun. You could stay up late nights and just kill monsters quick and easy. It wasn't wierd fantasy stuff it was hellish stuff. The setting had it's own unique demonic feel.
Then Starcraft came along. This game simply...astonishing. In 1996 blizzard showed a game at E3...was laughed at and people called it "Orcs in Space". After a huge redo.. it was released in 1998. Starcraft set the standards in gameplay, campaign editing...everything. It's balance was astonishing, ecspecially because on how diverse each race was from one another. In AOE2..all races are overall similar...not in Starcraft...totally diffrent. To this day Starcraft can still pull out 100,000 - 200,000 users at one time. Also with Starcraft, there was a "hacker". This guy hacked into staredit, the editor, and made his own thing to get into the MPQ archives. This led to a big revolution in the editor. Now people can protect there maps, add colors, totally unique custom editors(Starforge, Scmdraft 2), and well...do tons of things.
Then what came?

Diablo 2. Not as much depth as D1, but still quite fun. Kept the same fun laid back hack n slash style gameplay.

Warcraft 3.
This game..not as balanced as Sc but still really really fun. It's editor was down right the best ever and still is amazing. Can edit damn near everything. Can make a whole new race if you really want with your own custom models and textures and everything. The trigger editor..heh...makes me wanna shit my pants. Custom Maps really keep this game alive.

It seems to borrow a little bit from the end of Lord of destruction as well. The Diablo 3 story was setup in such a way that demons have spewed into earth because the barrier that held them back has been destroyed. Very similar to Hellgate i guess.

If you can't understand why Blizzards games are so amazingly awesome and popular i feel sorry for you. There are literally only 2 companies i take seriously these days, Blizzard and Valve. Those are the only two companies that create games I enjoy for years at a time. Warcraft 3 was my least favourite Blizzard game but it was just so polished and professionally made (awesome music, cinematics, sound effects, voice acting etc) that you really feel the awesome ambience and immersiveness of it all. The stories of the games are absolutely fantastic

Then looking beyond that, the gameplay is just so addictive, there's at least 200,000 people playing starcraft/diablo2/warcraft 3 at any given time. I just logged into Diablo 2, 50,000 people playing. Starcraft 50,000 people playing. These games are just awesomely popular.

Diablo 2 i played for about 5 hours a day for 9 months. There was something about the unique item system that kept drawing me back, those dull gold iteam on the ground, so simple yet so addictive...that never ending search to find those items.

Anyway, Hellgate is something i will probably buy. The creators also seem to be have carried over the cinematic stylings of Blizzard which i absolutely love. That E3 CG movie was awesome girl in tight tight rubber ARMOUR OF SLAYING:naughty:

The Diablo 3 story was setup in such a way that demons
wow...Diablo 3 hasn't been announced at all. No one knows anything of what will happen besides the story writers at Blizzard Entertainment North. So...this is speculation about Diablo 3 NOTHING MORE.
Also you act as if that the Prime\Lesser evils want the mortal world. No they want Heaven. it was eventually thought by heaven and hell to win the war between them was to influence the mortal world. If you know anything about the pre-history you better know this:
There were 7 evils in hell. 3 Prime evils, Diablo - Baal - Mephisto. 4 Lesser evils. Andariel, Durial, Azmodan, Belial. Now Azmodan and Belial thought that the prime evils wouldn't attack heaven and were getting scared so they actually attacked the Prime Evils, and in this civil war the Prime evils destoryed 1/3 of Hells Legions. Where were the prime evils banished? The Mortal World....... Heaven went to go save the mortal world from hell. This led the gates of heaven....open to attack. Azmodan and Belial were about to attack but went into a Civil War because they didn't know who had more power. No one knows ANYTHING of what happened after that. Know one knows what happened to them.... I believe that they will have something to do in Diablo 3...far more than... anything else.
Read the Diablo 1 manual, about the Sin War, the Great War and everything. It's all in there... :).

I barley play D1\D2 now but..hell I still know a shitload about it ^_^.

On Starcraft...well you have to play Brood Wars secret level and well... know about the Xel'Naga who they were, what they did, etc.. and you will see how ****ing good Blizzard is at creating a Storyline.
Even the Diablo's have a half decent storyline.
