DIABLO2: can't get it to run

Does anybody have a problem getting diablo2 to work (Patch maybe?), this problem seems to be windows XP (the game doesn't respond and does not run). Can anybody help

Ive never had any problems with D2. I dont play it anymore but when i did it always worked.

Could you be more specific about "doesnt run"?

has it run before/what has changed since then/

when exactly does it crash?

I have a 2000+ AMD Athlon, Geforce4MX440, and WindowsXPHome Edition
When I load the game from windows, it takes an aweful long time before it starts to play the intro movie and the main menu. From the main menu, I can pick a character without a problem, but it then goes to a blank screen. Fifteen minutes later, its still on the black screen, and ctrl, alt, delete has no effect. So I have to reboot my machine.

I've tried on two different discs of the game, and tried it on two different DVD drives

make sure your drivers are all up to date.
check for spyware/adware/viruses

you may have to reinstall.

Try using software mode.

i would definately look into sound card. it seems like everyone has problems nowadays (me too) when they don't update their sound card. so try disabling your sound first.

Tried everything above, except the soundcard thing. I'll check that (doubt it is though, the game is older than my variant of soundcard)

nah that shouldnt make any differance.... ive nver had any problems with it under XP.

I dunno. When I first got XP, I had problems running StarCraft, compatibility mode fixed me up
