I want to know this from people like Seinfeld. When Democrats use the filibuster the right would scream that Democrats are absuing the rules. Well, today Bush appointed Bolton to the UN until the next session of congress because of loop holes in the rules despite the fact that congress will not approve him. So please, I would love to know, is this not playing by the rules?

I wish I knew... but here's a tip. Too much politics, weaving it into your everyday life... causes white hair to develop in all the worst places. Thats why I mainly concern myself with the big things, not every little quirk that goes on in the political landscape, such as whoever this bolton guy is.

using a loophole doesn;t mean you're not playing by the rules, just means you know how to circumvent them without breaking them
this might be a good thing, though, especially if he does well in the job, then maybe the democrats will approve him, and if he doesn't do so well he'll be out soon enough

I think you judge me a little too much based on my forum posts. Just because I pay attention doesn't mean I spend most of my daily life on poilitics.

I'm just pointing out the hypocracy of it.

It definitely seems a bit underhanded
Especially since he knows so many people are against him for serious reasons
But, its politics, politics is underhanded i guess

Were you screaming when Dems were using the filibuster? No. Dont go calling me out on something you are equally guilty of.

Am I screaming now? Bush can do this and I knew he would do it when Bolton couldn't get confirmed. This just shows he doesn't care what congress thinks and he will do whatever he wants instead of giving us a nominee that we can all support. Here is the difference, the democrats aren't calling to have the rules changed like the Republicans did.

Thats because this didnt only affect Bolton. The main bitching was over judicial nominees which is still up in the air. I'm sure if Bush found a way to get a nominee in the Supreme Court without Congress you would hear major PMS bitching.

There is no nominee everyone would support.

And the rules Republicans tried to change didn't only affect 1 judicial nominee. The bottom line is Democrats played by the rules; sure they might be upset with Bush playing by the rules as what he did is pretty much spit in their face but they aren't out there threatening a nuclear option.

I'll give you that, but he could nominate someone that isn't bat-shit crazy like Bolton is. His own party wouldn't fully support him and there isn't a single Democrat that will vote for him, unlike most other cases when a moderate is up for a vote.

American Politics is weird. :rolling:
It is weird. But if we don't pay attention this stuff will affect your country; you guys will now have to deal with a nut case like Bolton at the UN. On behalf of the 49% of the Americans that didn't vote for Bush I apologize to the people of your country for what Bolton will do at the UN.

They would be if Bolton was going to the Supreme Court rather than the UN.

You aren't making any sense. Bottom line is democrats played by the rules when they filibustered; the republicans didn't like that so they tried to change the rules. Bush plays by the rules and democrats accept that; they don't try to change the rules. What part of this argument you don't understand is beyond me.

Importance Scale:

Supreme Court Judge > UN Ambassador

The part of that you dont get is beyond me.

its the same thing, shows that republicans are willing to change the rules when the rules don't suit them while democrats play fair. That's my point,I wont be replying anymore unless something new is added. let people judge who has a stronger point, I'm sick of beating all the dead horses around here.

What are the odds of the UN Credentials Committee rejecting him?

I don't think they can. But Bush doesn't play by the rules so if anything like that happened Bush would withdraw from the UN and the world would be ****ed, he has to protect his pride no matter what the cost.

I kinda of wish they would reject bolton, I can't stand that guys mustache... I bet it tickles bushy on those cold crawford night.

(ps. i'm joking, but i really hate the guys mustache)

Everyone has to pay their dues to Bush somehow. But it makes me proud not to be an American and also proud that at least the American's have a limit on how long a president can be president. Who wants to take bets that he will somehow get round this? Wait, didn't Roosevelt have a third term due to ww2?

The fact that they would not give him an up or down vote simply shows the inefficiency of the Senate. I'm glad to see this. He would be confirmed if put to a vote, and we needed someone in there to cover that position, not to mention Bolton is excellent for the time being.

oh rakurai, you jsut want one of those mustache rides and you know it!

hehe

Yes, when you fire people that have accurate findings that disagree with your position makes him the perfect diplomat. Give me a break.

well, i think he is just appointed temporarily while Congress is on break. I think they can remove him in a few months if they still don't like him.

He can't be removed until 2007.
