I ask cuz I see vh1 allways make specials of songs of the 80 but very few of 90's related stuff, and well the 90's ended so why I dont see so much 90's greatest hits or stuff like that?

I was raised in the 90's so its obvious why ask this, and many songs of the 80 are very dam good,so is really not rare all the specials

one of my favorites is whip it of devo

I love nineties stuff, I think there are less 90's flashbacks because it wasn't that long ago.

Going to be weird when Nirvana is considered old stuff that kid's grandfathers listen to o_O

Kyuss, Nirvana, Pantera... can't think of any more... but the 90s weren't all that bad. Still a sucky decade though.

Im now more of an 80s chilled rock man now.

Dire Straits
Bruce Hornsby
Chris Rea

all the world's greates guitarists.

the best music of the 90s was in the electronic groups

90s?
Nirvana Radiohead Pulp Oasis Blur No Doubt De La Soul middle period Chilis, U2 and REM's most popular years, Massive Attack, Primal Scream, The Prodigy... and that's just the really popular bands...

Late 80s and 90s were probably the high time for the indie scene. You won't see much of them on television though.

90s had a lot of really good music and even more really bad music.

The reason you see so much about 80s music is because those in charge of producing/writing whatever many music shows these days were either raised on 80s music themselves or simply think their key demographics were.

I base my assumptions on nothing, yet I hold them to be true.

They were probably saying the same thing with The Beatles back when they were big.

I absolutely love Radiohead. Their contribution to the 90s is undeniable.

Exactly. Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains etc.

Popular alternative 90s rock definitely had its ups and downs. Still a lot of my favorite songs come from the 90s - mostly underground groups.

The 90s included part of the golden age of hiphop so it was pretty good. Shit started getting bad around '95 though.

90's is the only decade I listen to. I love it. To me, anything before 1990 or after 2001 is and will always be dead. (I can tolerate some late-60's early 70's though)

The 90's were amazing. Most of my favorite music comes from the 90's

I mean hell:
Green Day
Nirvana
Matchbox 20
Everclear
Counting Crows
Marcy Playground (I smell sex and candy)
Semisonic (Closing Time)
Deep Blue Something (Breakfast At Tiffany's) (Song was played ALL the time)
Foo Fighters
U2
Staind(1999)
Limp Bizkit
Korn
Eiffel 65
Aerosmith (had some good song's in the 90's... Crazy, I don't wanna miss a thing)

and a bunch more.

90's music sucks that's why. So does most 80's music. To get some dope tunes you gotta dig back to the 70's and 60's. Those are the decades of good music. There's so many good bands in that time frame I couldn't even start listing them all in this post. It would probably take multiple pages. On the outher side though it saddens me to think that all the bands I like are either dead or in retirement homes these days. But I would still rather listen to them than any of the garbage they pumped out in the 80's, 90's, and the present.

Does anyone here seriously dislike any music from a particular decade? How arbitrary is that? Although I can say that I have yet to hear any music from before the '50s that I enjoyed, there's been a constant flow of good and bad music ever since in my opinion.

Agreed, even though I can enjoy some ragtime from the 20's :D

My dad calls the 80's a "Barren wasteland for music"...I call the 90's that. Not saying nothing good came from it, just...not much.

The 90's was awesome

We had groups like Pantera, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, In Flames, Prodigy, etc etc release great music. It just hasnt aged enough to be a classic yet (well most of it anyway) give it a few years and you'll see those 90's flashbacks.

Seems to me that since the beggining of the 80's the only good music to come out has been metal and a few techno and classical music. :(

Every decade had fantastic music released and every decade had really bad music released. If you disagree it's a matter of personal taste and you're wrong.

yeah I think thats for personal taste, sure people raise din this age will say how great the music was even if I think is mostly crap

Urban Hymns by the Verve came out in the nineties. That's all the decade needs to be awesome.

The 90s are all about the awesome one hit wonders...
Verve Pipe - Freshman
Barenaked Ladies
Goo Goo Dolls
White Town - Your Woman
Third Eye Blind - Semi Charmed Life
Cornershop - Brimful of Asher
Macarena
Bush - Glycerine
Zebrahead - Get Back
Mighty Mighty Bosstones - The Impression that I Get

ETC!!!

And the greats,
The Pixies
Pearl Jam
Foo Fighters
Soundgarden
Fat Boy Slim and The Chemical Bros
Wilco
Fugazi
Radiohead
The strokes

Man, what an awesome decade for music, the first decade for reliving the magic of past eras. Bringin 'em back and makin 'em better. :D

Neither was Bush or Goo Goo Dolls.

I still live in the 90s. Mostly because I don't think this current decade has defined itself in any way. There's plenty of music I like stretching back from now to the 50s, and plenty I don't. This pop idol shit churning out overnight stars is pretty stupid.

So far the '00s is just an extension of the late 90s with better handhelds.

QFT.

They were so one hit wonders. m not talking about songs that people who like the bands would know, but songs that encapsulated the era. Flock of Seagulls and Frankie Goes to Hollywood (80s) are perfect examples (there are other songs by them besides 'I Ran' and 'Relax'). The songs I mentioned are the songs that bands like Bush and the Goo Goo Dolls will be remembered by in years to come. Not crap like 'The Chemicals Between Us.'
In my book that makes them one hit wonders, and im not saying this is a bad thing, just saying that this is what the 90s were about, especially from 1995-2000.

I think most music in the nintee's was shit and have always liked older music.

agreed

everything else was just a repackaging of old genres: nirvana, pearl jam, oasis etc

besides radiohead I cant think of a single mainstream standout from the 90's ...ok early U2 ..but not much else

Flock of Seagulls and Frankie Goes to Hollywood

they had more to do with fashion than musical style ..both frankie goes to hollywood and flock of seaguls were mainstream pap despised by anyone who wasnt into pop ..they were the modern day equivilants to the Macerna

the most influential music from the 80's were from bands like the Jam or joy division or the smiths ....bands like flock of seaguls have become what this generation typifies as 80's music but it's hardly an accurate assessment

REM had a really great album in 1992, and an amazing song in 91

If you don't like most early to mid 90's rock, you should burn in hell

I liked the earlier stuff much better

who says I didnt like it? it might have been generic rehashing of previous musical styles (or a return to 70's rock) but it still was good generic rehashing of musical styles ..and after glam rock of the 80's it was a welcome change ..however the scene died about the time the movie Singles was released ..after that it was like watching a slowly sinking ship

Yea, Murmur and Reckoning are my top 2 REM albums, but Automatic for the People is pretty close.

I think Nirvana were much more original then you are giving them credit for, Grunge was more then a generic rehashing of the 70's, no doubt it was an expansion of an earlier sound( isn't all music?) but it added much depth and perspective to rock and music in general. Have you hard In Utero...hardly generic.

But yea, besides early 90's REM, Nirvana and Radiohead there arn't many mainstream stand outs from the 90's. A wealth of great independent music is what the 90's really has to offer.

yes of course I've listened to in utero ..i listened to nirvana before they made it big ..also to mudhoney, mother love bone and others ..I'm no newb when it comes to grunge; I lived through that era
