wow.. this technology will be out for x360 and Rinbow six Vegas will support it..

read the whole interview

Good for RPg games. I definitely don't want this for an FPS.

Its really nothing that new.

Hell, Perfect Dark had it. Rare took it out however as they were worried about the implications of it.

Place bets on how long it will take before people with penisfaces show up.

Or worse for that matter...

Thanks for the idea
But this wont go down well with parents and lawmakers, being able to see your friends/enemies die virtually. :borg:

No, I don't think so. This is real-time face recognition. If you smile, your character in the game smiles. All of your facial expressions are represented in real-time. People can see (and hear) you laughing, etc. Look closer at the screenshots above - the in-game images are showing the exact same facial expression. Look at the eyes and lips - they are in the same position.

This will be mostly useful in on-line poker games. Put on your poker face! :| He's bluffing!

It would be really cool if on-line MMORPG's used this. They could save resources by only rendering facial expression changes by only implementing it when in a one-on-one conversation with someone.

The technology in this is amazing.

I clearly remember there being a PS3 techdemo where it put an entire realtime 3D model of you in the game, and iirc it INCLUDED HAIR etc unlike this which just seems to make the hair a superflat texture :p

Very impressive none the less..

I saw it too, it was cool, but I saw nowhere on there where it was PS3 - it was in a mall.

Besides, I don't think it is necessary for the poker game to show you holding your controller and sitting in your chair. it only needs to show your face, while your in-game representation holds the cards. This is by no means a technical limit - merely and example of what the technology can do.

This would be amazing in an MMORPG

Hmm, maybe it wasn't the PS3 but the article stated it was the Cell-processor atleast, big difference, soz I confused it.:)
And yes this'd be amazing in MMORPGs, too bad I don't play'em, but I particulary see the use of this in one of the game where it's shown, Poker.:p

This technology has been out for awhile for the PC. There's a thread somewhere in the Oblivion forums about the free trial program you can use. Pretty cool stuff, but nothing new.

Considering you can't even see your face in a first person shooter.

Yea, I was just about to say, there is no reason the PS3 and the PC can't do this as well, it's all a matter of what games use it best. It is still new technology. It will become more and more optimized and better implimented over the years.

You're thinking of FaceGen which was used in Elder Scrolls, it's not really the same thing, because if I understood correctly, this game can in real-time read your face and imitate it's muscle, all FaceGen does is read your face ones off a pic and make a 3Dmodel+texture of it, it doesn't allow you to in real-time read off your lipmovement etc etc..

I always thought having your likeness in a game is pointless ...I mean in a virtual world where you can be anything you want ...you pick yourself? talk about lack of imagination

interesting but no thanks

I would enjoy seeing myself battling metal gears, kissing pretty ladies, or as the final boss. I would enjoy seeing the enemies real face in BF2, people will most likely just use their face as a template, but add wacky hair and other stuff. Like you see in the Cell mirror movie. Wouldn't you find it cool to see an orc or elf or dwarf in WoW that has a face that resembles yours, but with a muscular purple body with piercings.

Bryan Singer's gonna be pissed. All that money and time he spent putting Marlon Brando's face into Superman Returns when he could have just done it with Digimask!

not really ...if given the choice of adding my likeness to a game I wouldnt, I'd rather create something new
