Ok, I get that I haven't been paying much attention to software and games during the past 3 ~ 4 years or so, but what happened?

WTF is StarForce? I thought it was a game or something until I searched for it, and it seems to me a..... very unwantable program to have on your computer.

And SecuROM. and other DRM programs. I didn't even know they installed without the user's permission. Sounds like a virus to me. :dozey:

Seriously what is this shit?

**** you sony, I'll have maximum control of my own computer.

Ok I understand the need to stop software piracy, but can't they do it without this? Those will prolly be broken eventually, anyway. :/

They are the devils tools to prevent us from having "fun"

On a side note, I think I'm becoming more and more paranoid by the day.

Don't drink the water, makes you forget, etc

On a side note: I find it funny that you of all people is so upset by intrusive bundled software. They're just trying to regain control of their products, amirite?

Well, I guess I never had a problem with it until I knew about it. :p

And this is why I er... patch things.

It's worth noting that developers are moving away from this kind of trash. The latest and greatest is just light install caps and required online validation.

that's all!

So they don't make the computer create monster tentacles to rape both you and your computer's hard drive anymore? Because that's basically the gist of what I've been reading .:p

Edit: Also, online validation really seems the way to go, you can't beat online validation, I would guess. Most people have internet nowadays anyway.

I stopped playing (non freeware) video games because of DRM. Well, I'll play the ones I have, but I'm not likely to buy any more. Not only is DRM a nuisance and has undesirable effects, but I find its very presence insulting and offensive.

It seems to me that DRM wasn't a bother until about 2004 or '05. In the following years it got really out of control. But currently, in my opinion, it's absolutely ridiculous.

DRM = Do not want. I won't pay for something I don't want. Simple as that.

Also CD keys are a type of DRM.

Yeah DRM is very annoying, as well as other unwanted **** like Games For Windows Live.
