Direct X 10 cards are here

Hmm, i think I found which vid card I'll be buying.
Damn, gf sure does suck the income up

i thought your income was suppose to go dry when you are married

He has an intimate relationship with his computer ;)

I'm hoping I'll be getting large sums of money this christmas, the cards cost £400 from dabs.com, on top of the £300+ upgrade for my system...

I love TigerDirect. They have some of the absolute best deals around (as long as you're cool with mail-in rebates).

Those aren't expensive whatsoever.

I like Tigerdirect a little better than newegg, simply because the pages are more organized.
Man I want those cards, although I need to see a dx10 benchmark first

Wait a bit for the competition to come out, maybe it'll be better :X

I was going to buy one of these but instead bought a Xbox 360 and Gears of War. Best decision ever.

I made a measurement with my ruler yesterday, damn gtx (10.5 in.) is too damn long for my case, the gts (9 in.) will fit but barely and I'm sure heat would build like a mofo.

An 8800gtx - $670
A decent LCD monitor that supports more than 1280x1024 - ~$500 (at least)
A more reliable power supply - ~$100

And for what? To play my current games with 170fps rather than my current 110fps? Thats not even including the $200 version of Vista you'd need to play DX10 games.

Atleast the 360, HD VGA Cable, and Gears of War cost me $550 and it plays brand new games that dont get PC ported, and get this, it plays them without the hassle of driver issues, hardware issues or just plain FPS issues. Becuase we all know how crappy even the 7800gtx runs Oblivion.

You did the right thing mate. The price of graphics cards is starting to sicken me. You paid half the price of a new graphics card to get a decent console with some great titles out for it. Pretty sound decision to me.

And theres more than suitable powersupply

Not entirely sure, but won't there be a DX10 update for windows XP? Now I'm curious.

The card is simply aimed towards the Next Gen technology. Not a good decision to buy one now until we see benchmarks for UT2007, Crysis, etc. But hey, if you got the money.

No, XP would need a completely revamped sound\graphic driver system for one and it's a way to help push Vista into the market.

I'd still say that the x1950pro is the best buy atm. 60% of the performance for 1/4th of the price :E

Only people who have the money are going to buy these cards.

People like myself will wait for games to utilize DX10 fully and wait for the mid-range cards to come out.

Doesn't make the price of top end cards any less sickening though

True. It is pretty much the latest technology though :P

Meh, its like saying you're sickened at prices for a Porsche.

Meh, its like saying you're sickened at prices for a Porsche.

eh not really, you cant compare car prices and video cards. porsches are to show off and well i guess video cards can be shown off, but its just not the same concept.

I am. I recognize that Porsches are nice cars, but really, wtf is the point if you can get a car that works perfectly fine for a sixth of the price or less? All they're really good for are bragging rights and a display of economic status.

I'm definitely waiting until at least the summer before I upgrade. My x1900XT will do fine.

I meant monitors with MORE than 1280x1024. Like these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...09821318+1109909238&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=20

Those are pretty much near my estimate (though I did over do it). And like most people above me said, Windows XP will never get DX10 support. All I was trying to say was that, for the money spent, I'm getting more fun out of the 360 than I would have after spending somewhere around $900 on said computer parts.

And you'll be playing your 360 on what kind of display exactly? Because a decent 720p HDTV will set you back more than your average 19" LCD...

But yeah, the card prices are ridiculous - I'll be waiting for the DX10 equivalent of a 6600GT before I make the switch.

An HDTV was no problem becuase we've had one for a year. And when I want to play in my room, I use my current 17'' LCD monitor with that VGA cable, which I said I bought.

lol, nice logic, however in reality it's not the same at all.

I think it's pretty similar. Lets say a new car comes out, and it's really fast. Obviously it's going to be more expensive. Sure you can buy your Geo metro and slowly chug down the highway, but most performance comes with a price. But you can still buy a fast car cheap. You can tweak your engine, add a turbo, etc, kinda similar to overclocking.
