Sorry guys, i have forgotten what command line i have to type in the advanced launch options to get CS:S to play in direct x 8.1


Could someone enlighten me, i cant find the threads that contained this info??

i think its somthing like -dxlevel 81

i think if u turn shader option to low it runs in dx8 mode
atleast it did that for me in the beta i think

There isn't one fookn person that knows how to mess with the direct x settings getting them from 9 to 8?

try "mat_dxlevel 81" for 8.1 "mat_dxlevel 90" for 9.0 etc. i believe

Is there much of a performance difference between the two? Or is it mostly visual?

i think only on older cards.

Visual difference Is so minimal, and DX 8.1 gives u up to 10 fps more, depending on ure system (it did for me atleast). So unless u have a Ati 9800 Pro or above, try use DX 8.1. Trust me, there is almost no difference.

go into the game and type mat_dxlevel 81 or 80 then run the video stress test and see what you get
