I tested direct35 in dxdiag. The Dx7 test went fine, but 8 and 9 both had texture problems,a white triangle on the sides, similar to what I had in HL2.
I have downloaded the latest dx9 driver, and restarted, but no to no avail. Ideas?

What's your graphics card? Do you have the latest drivers for it?

I have an ATI 256 Mb 9800xt. When I tried the newest Catalyst drivers, it had the same effect. So I switched over to omega, but the same results. Should I try Catalyst again?

Before installing another set of drivers, I would make sure that you fully uninstall the current video card drivers that you have installed.

1) Start--> Control Panel--> Add Remove Programs
2) Manually delete all ATI folders on your hard drive. There should be 2. One located here: "C:\ATI" and another in the "C:\Program Files" section on your HDD. Delete both folders.
3) Download and install "Driver Cleaner Pro" to make sure all the old driver files have been fully removed from your PC. Left over files from drivers can easily cause you problems. Download the free version here: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Driver-Cleaner-Professional-Download-20706.html
4) Install and run the program. Its very simple to run the program and it works very well to remove old leftover driver files.

At any time, you can download the newest drivers for your card. Make sure you download the correct driver for your version of Windows or Linux or whatever OS you have installed. If it's Vista, be patient until drivers have a chance to mature. You might also want to try a tweaked version of the Catalyst drivers. I have found that they can do wonders with overall performance.

Let us know how it goes.

I did it, and same results. When I uninstalled my old card, it was on board graphics, ad I got rid of it in device manager only. Could that be a problem? Do I have to uninstall it somewhere else?
