Now that the 8800 series have been knocking around, I thought it was time I upgraded my somewhat ageing GeForce 7600GT.

Looking at the numbers, is the GeForce 7950GT the best DirectX 9 card to go for? I'm not planning on getting Vista in a loooong while so thats why I'm just looking for DirectX 9 capable cards.

I've seen this: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=618011

For the price it looks great

best dx9

8 series is best both for DX9 & DX10.

If you find a cheap 7950 somewhere then it's a dilema.
Otherwise you should buy some 8xxx.

8800s really havent shown what dx10 can do, but yes the 8800s are the best dx9 cards you can get. x1950xt is the best dx9 only card you can get.

Im looking at the price to performance aspect. I cant see me buying an 8800 card for ?180 when I can get the 7950 for ?120.

The main reason people get 800s are coz they support DirectX10, which I dont care about

sigh your not listening man.....lots of people are getting 8800s for dx9 support right now because it will give the best possible. everyone who is knowledgeable about video cards knows that first generation dx(whatever number it is) wont be great. people will buy the next gen cards for dx10 though.
