Disable sounds via console

Any1 know how to disable sounds from console?
I don't mean that only turning volume down, i mean that you really disable them

In the console, type 'volume 0' and hit enter. I don't know of a disable way. Whats wrong with just killing the volume?

i want to test if it affects my FPS, in FFXI and WoW it did, and much did too(+30 FPS)
