Disabling chat?

Could someone tell me how to disable the chat in CS:S? I was able to do it in old CS, but I forgot what the command was (something like mp_chat 0 or something), and no amount of googling has helped me either.

In game hit esc, highlight playerlist, highlight players name and hit mute, you will then mute the players that talk too much or annoy you. Don't know about the other way of doing it but until then , this should tie you over.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think that is only for voice com.

I mean the text chat.

I ask b/c my younger bro likes to play, but I would like to turn off the chat as some people have the need to be extremely rude and/or disgusting

Its hard to stop a small kid from reading "naughty words"..

Then they will kind of absorb the rude ways of most CS gamers, and start retaliating with worse insults, and the cycle continues!

Yea....it's not that I want to shelter him from the world his entire life, I just think at certain ages kids *should* be shielded from some stuff.
