In all of my steam games (DoD:S, CS:S, and HL2DM) I can only play for a few seconds - with incredible player lag - before getting this message. I am able to find NO help online so I'm hoping that here someone can offer some insight. The games have been working on this machine for about 6 months with no problems at all, but after playing one night, I woke up and decided to play and the problem started to happen. At first players were just lagging and it was ALMOST playable, but a little annoying. The problem grew worse and worse until now I get this disconnect message (Disconnect: buffer overflow in net message). I have no idea what to do and any help would be much appreciated!

I doubt that it is my system.. i've been play the game for about 6 months with no problem, but - intel core 2 duo - nvidia 7950 - 1g ram - cable connection.. i doubt that it's my system because the game has been running fine. Also i just displayed a net_graph in DoD:S and my input is about 3000 and my output is only about 60.. i'm guessing that the 3000 trying to come in is not normal.. also.. i've read that sometimes lynksis routers can cause the problem.. i'm using a WCG200 lynksis router but have not updated the firmware.. in... i don't know if i ever have actually..

ok.. so i just realized something else.. It's only when people are talking. I played on a server where no one was talking and i had absolutely no problem.. but when people talk it all goes downhill.. this is weird because i've been playing the game for forever and NEVER experienced this..

Yeah, WCG200.. but it's worked up until now and it works on the other systems running through the router.. we have 3 systems playing DoD:S in my house. One is hardwired.. i know it works.. the other is on wireless.. it works as well.. mine runs fine until someone talk on the mic.. as i said i haven't updated the firmware or anything and it's not the router that steam support mentions on their forum as causing trouble..
