Or not. But what it has killed is my clicking finger. No game has ever had me so glued to the screen for so long since Half-Life. It's as old as Half-life too, it was made in 1999 and I bought it in 2000 (I think it was then, not to sure, but somewhere around those times). Thing is later that year (I think) after I bought it I had XP installed shortly thereafter and was no longer able to play it due to a disc protection fault problem that was uncompatible with XP. BAH!
Two days ago I really felt like playing this again (And after several failed attempts a few years before) as I was so dissapointed when I was unable to continue playing it, and just as it had started to get really, really good too! With an unbelivable stroke of luck I was able to find a no CD crack for it. (After spending ages browsing though tedious crack sites displaying those ever so annoying and worthless, cheap porno banner adverts.) But back to the point - after I had downlaoded the crack and unzipped it to the folder it worked! Much chearing ensured. And I was back in the brilliant, immersive Discworld Noir.
Let me just say that if you love Noiresque style Films then you will love this to bits - much like I do. You're Lewton, a PI (Private Investigator) In Ankh Morpork not particularly enjoying another slow lifeless day when a rather overly busty lass strowls into your office with a case she'd like to hire you to investigate. And from there on depth, atmosphere, brilliance, hillarity, british humor, fantistic music and enough brilliant voice acting to sink a large ship ensures.I really cannot stress how much I enjoyed being able to finish this fine peice of a game. I mean you even get to question Death. And the humor is great, and it never has to go miles over the top (like some other adventure games do) to make you laugh or raise a smile.
Lewton : "Uhh, Nobby - you do realise that there is smoke comming out of your ear?"
Nobby : "...Oh. Uh, well, you see... I've been working really hard you know."
Lewton: "So hard that your ears have caught fire..."
It really is good. And like Lewton said. "And so the plot thickens. And you could already stand a spoon up in it." The plot really is good. From just starting out questioning a few of the inhabitants of Ankh Morkpork to well... It really does start to get interesting at the end of Act one (not that it wasen't interesting to begin with). And goes on to really surprise.
From the fantastic intro that really sets the mood to a satisfying end this is a very overlooked game that I cannot recommend enough. Obviously, like any other game that exsists it has a few weak spots. But there are so many brillaint spots - that those weaker ones get drowned out instantaniously by those stronger, brillaint spots. If you can get your hands on it then by all means get it. Anyway... sorry for the rather long ramble that none of you will have the effort to read through - but I just thought I'd post about it anyway.
