Display problems

When I load up HL2 and the main menu loads, the background does not display properly. Some buildings will be displayed, and the rest won't, instead showing the sky where they should be. Sometimes the computer will crash and restart itself as well. I've done a lot of things, including updating video driver, using -autoconfig in the Steam game properties, etc. HL1 also gives me problems, like freezing, the screen turning white for a split second, and then resuming gameplay. Both of these games ran fine on my machine until recently. Any help?

AMD Athlon 64 Processor, 1.80 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 5200
512 MB RAM

The only thing that should be upgraded is my hard drive, which is like 10 years old and only has 37 GB of storage. That being said, HL2 has run perfectly well on this computer in its current state in the past.

Nope. Didn't work. I started the game again, it froze, displayed some crazy stuff, and then the computer crashed and restarted. Pulled this off the error report:

Sounds like it's eithe the hardware or the drivers.

Try out the Omega Drivers.

Thanks. Should I use ForceWare 66.93 for the NVIDIA GeForce 5200?

EDIT: Tried that driver, didn't fix anything.
