Yeah you know what it's like when you got into a LAN. There's all these freaks hanging around.

Last time I went to a LAN I sat with my mate next to this guy playing counter-strike who wouldn’t stop yelling things like "NOOOO, I've been n00bed by your n00b cannon" and "Oh my God, you're such a n00b you have no recoil oh my God what the **** hax?" in the most whiney voice you've ever heard. Anyway somehow me and my mate ended up versing him in a RTS (I can't remember which) and my mate totally slaughtered him and so then my mate says "ha, I kicked your ass" and then the CS guy puts on this wizard voice (yes, he put on a wizard voice :|) and yells out at the top of he's voice "What's that? A challenge to Counter-Strike: Source?" so me and my mate verse him (now this guy has a T-shirt on that said "I <3 CS" and he probably spends he's whole life playing it) so we start up the game and the CS guy's doing all this stuff in the console like changing he's crosshair, sensitivity etc... like a real pro and then we start and he totally get's slaughtered again and my mate tells me he see's this guy playing CS in there every time he goes. So this guy play's CS all day probably, he's hands literally shake when he moves them from too much CS and he can't even play it. What a sad existence, I feel so sorry for this guy.

What are your experiences with LAN gamers?

The voice of a wizard?

Sounded like a wizard off a Harry Potter movie.

Well, you know, I play CS all the time, like my whole life in LANs.

I remember this one time, when I went out to the internet cafe wearing my favorite I <3 CS shirt, and I played these total n00bs. And somehow I ended up versing them in an RTS, but I totally pwned them in that, and then the little whiney n00bs wanted to play a game of CS against me, and I was like, in my ultra cool wizard voice, "What's that? A challenge in Counter Strike: Source?" And the n00bs were like, clueless. So I set it up all custom and junk and then played against them, and the n00bs hacked on me! I mean, omfg I lost completley. I was so mad I tantrumed in my mother's basement until she came down there and threatened to kick me out on the street, because you know, I'm like 35.

:P jk thesteven

A guy on my side starts asking me for money to buy himself a sandwich, and I told him no many times. I was playing on a "famous" public server, and he checks which it is when I press up the scoreboard and then he joins the server and starts asking me for money again in the game.

Give it up already?

I was playing at a Halo 2 LAN tourney (I got like 8th place or smt) down at this one place and this guy challenged me 1v1, I beat him (not a complete ownage, but I won) then he tried to get me dropped from the tourney for glitching because I was hitting him with the pulse pistol to remove his shields then quickly switiching to the Assault Rifle and shooting him once to kill him, a simple little tactic almost everyone uses.

That is kinda sad. I play video games, but they arn't my life. I hope.

I have the perfect solution for the problem. Sit near the stage. Max the first 3 rows. The music will be so loud that you cant speak and hence, you not hear any gamers.

It's a little harder to work on your compos during a live performence but hey, its a lanparty :D

I change my crosshair, but I change it to pink just because it looks more fun :D

I don't know what kinda wierd arse lans you guys go to, but I book a table with 4-6 friends so I'm not sitting next to complete strangers. Generally though everyone I've met at the lan I regulary go to are nice people.

Last one went pretty well. I won in a weetbix eating competition picking up a copy of Graw and my team came second in 5v5 CSS, we eached picked up $30.

It's not as easy as you think. btw I'm the guy in the jacket + glasses

Ontopic: The weirdest experience I've ever had is when the guy sitting next to me had the exact same case as I, which is pretty hard considering my case isn't the best thing around. Anyway this same guy had a whole terrabyte of porn, no kidding!

creepiest people i've seen at lans are always those 300+ lb bearded guys with nasty B.O. that sit in the darkest corner of the lan.

you know you've seen em at some point.

Every time i see one of them I'm like "please God, don't let me end up like one of them..."

Never been to a LAN myself. Can't say it's ever really appealed to me. Then again, I don't know a single person in real life who plays video games lol, so I'd be somewhat alone.

Whats the fun of that? I got to lans just to meat people. I play for about 5 hours on a 4 day lan. Most of the time is about socializing, making demos and music and all the weird ass wild-compos. The best experience from the lastest lanparty i attended was playing Serious Sam 2 while a Live DJ played the most awesome GOA/Psy-trance set ive ever heard. I was on the second row and my mate messured the sound level on his phone (not 100% accurate that is) and it showed 110db... party party :D The monitor vibrated from the sound.

Edit: We have a different lanparty "culture" than the UK/US. They focus more on the gaming (silence, dont say a word!) while we here up north actually like to emphasize on the party part of "lanparty" :)

i think we're about sort of half-way between, or it just depends where you go.

there is a lan cafe which is the most popular for cs, so i go there fairly often but ~85% are complete morons and are always swearing, making up excuses or doing something annoying.. what do i do ? i just talk to the people i know and ignore them and they start crying even more when i ignore them.

they're like the ones you were talking about thesteven, people who think they're soo pro, do all these leet config changes (all i day is sensitivity and a couple of other small things most people do) and talk trash the whole time, but they're just average or suck.

i don't do 1v1 in pretty much any fps (especially cs, though i'll do q3 sometimes) so they're always like "lolz omg ur scared noob" but i play in the 'highest' competition in my state (and interstate) so i ask them what clan they're in and they just shut up or say i'm lying but there's always a few ppl who will say that i do play in those competitions/leagues/whatever.. occasionally i'll make some witty statement and laugh at them, to teach them a lesson. ;)

ever got into a fight @ a lan cafe, or seen one ? it's funny as hell watching these losers yell @ each other, haha.

Whats the fun of that?

The lan I goto Valhalla (the urls lie) is a social lan. Theres your normal amounts of gaming, leeching, pimping rigs etc and then theres the competitions. We do 5v5 dodgeball, Soccer all that sort of thing. A few lans back we had a power supply throwing competiton, to say the least there was a lot of debrie.

Probably South Australia's biggest with 300-500 people. Lans like dreamhack seem cool and then you see the amount of people playing WOW.

Some LAN places are so lame, but in a good way. When I went to one with a bunch of friends the people running the place were so busy watching a movie that we were all able to randomly just walk out without paying nothing else but the deposit.

They didn't even take our names down when we booked it D:

I went to a public LAN with a few friends of mine, a particular friend of mine has a very nice computer and case to go with it. As we were setting up 3 middle-aged men covered in some transluctent goo apporached, stroking said friend's case and saying "Nice Rig" with a pause between each word.

They then looked at the RAM tempreture gauge inside the case and shrieked "YOUR RAM IS OVERHEATING! GWAH!" and ran off.

I haven't been to a public LAN since.

Never been to a lan yet, Me and my 1.6 team have booked and paid for our tickets to multiplays i28 next month though :D should be a laugh.

I forgot to mention the guy who wrote up the names for tournaments coudn't pronounce or spell my name, dispite the fact I had a name tag and said it repeativley.

"Damananaminal?"

"No! Dan-ee-mull!"

"Daneema!"

"..."

 !

My worst experience with LANs was picking up a stalker at a Call of Duty 2 tournament. He eventually professed his love for me at an all night LAN, over MSN, while he was sitting the other side of the room.

:|

I told him I had a boyfriend and I haven't been to the LAN place since. He apparently wants to meet the 'twat' I go out with...

D:

WHY WONT YOU RETURN MY CALLS SHIIPI MY LOVE MY MUSE!

Dude you play video games at LAN parties. How are you complaining about other nerds?

I don't claim to not be a nerd. I have no problem with anyone who just enjoy's gameing, it's just the people who go way over the top and let it consume their lives.

That's not your REAL name, is it?

I've never played games over LAN, just Internet.

All the servers I play (Random ones really, the ones that have the best Ping or have empty spaces) I have never seen anyone called, or calling people, a n00b.

There have been other incidents however:

-Two CS:S players constantly yelling down their mics to one another, NOT conversation yelling, just random wailing :|

After they had left the servers (this was a public server), some players jokingly said they had to mute the sound output.

-Playing Dust, and someone on our team decided to cheat (using some sort of speed hack), big time. Both teams decided to kick him by mass voting. He was kicked. But then he decided to show up again. Same process. This must of been repeated 4-7 times.

Anyway, both teams decided to join forces in a game of Kill the Bastard.

I tell you, he never appeared after that

CS nerds are much more interesting creatures when seen out in the wild, I can tell you that (and they are not too fond of gas horns ).

That reminds me. I love people who who either shout out "Geeks!" or mention in in IRC. On probably 10 occasions now I've shouted back "Your at a freaking lan, your a geek too."

haha, i've done so too; they usually call you a geek if you're slaughtering them and when you yell it out and everyone laughs at them, they get fairly embarassed and/or angry.

Hahahaha, hilarious.

When I won my copy of Battlefield 2

"And the last guy to pickup a copy of Battlefield 2 is.... I'm not going to try to pronounce this one, you know who you are..."

"It's Kai-o"

"Right well get your damn prize already!"

I've been to a few small LANs (40-60 people), very fun atmosphere :)

And I've done like 8 tiny LANs (only 8 guys, always friends), these are the most hilarious. You've got the jump techno addict who thinks he can dance to it, you've got that guy's twin brother (they are also dressed the same, equalling lolage) and you have my best friend who borrows the hub from a guy and is "wtfpwnage" in CoD2 (so he says). There's occassionally also my nephew who thinks he is absolutely great in loads of games but then he mysteriously gets pwnt and he sinks back to his righteous place :p
Then you've got the CoD2 and AoE III addict who only plays those two games but remarkably is still mediocre at them, and is colourblind.

Then, you have the WoW addict. Most of the time he's just doing instances online and babbling about his INCREDIBLY OWNAGE HONOUR KILLS LAST DAY OMFG.

And then you've got me :O
