Dm-Dockside beta released!

I thought it was called dm_dockyard?

downloading now to have a play.
 
Just had a go, nice map nice layout..noticed a few things though...see the pictures below:

Pic 1) Unrealistic that this piece of wood would be standing up like this. Put supports behind it or move it closer to the balcony...also the wooden 'block' (stops u falling off the edge) on the balcony above is floating, put some supports under that too :)

Pic 2) Lorry is floating, further wheel is a bit messed up, just align it so the wheels are hitting the ground, something so heavy wouldnt be balancing on 2 wheels i dont think

Pic 3) This container wouldnt stay in this position in real life...recommend moving more of it onto the far end of the container below it

Sorry to nitpick lol, i can't help noticing realism things in maps. Other than that good job, keep workin at it :)

Nice map. Should be fun playing it on a full server; just a few bugs to report that havent been mentioned:

I think you can fix the sky by lining up the squares of the skybox texture at the top.

Commiting suicide causes a black screen, you may have chosen for this to happen but I find it a litle strange because it doesnt happen when you are killed in other ways + I like seeing ragdoll effects.

3) Yeah, I saw that after I compiled. It wasn't worth waiting another 2.5 hours for, so I left it until the final update.

I got some weird cubemapping artifacts on my gun. I'm unsure if it's the map or my install.

It's quite a long way to get up there, and you don't get any sort of reward for your trouble. I'd either make a ladder up, so it's not sort of a distant point with no reason to get there, or put some sort of reward up there.

This might make a good place for a window from which you could machine gun the yard.

I came all this way and all I got was this lousy shotgun. At least put a .357 out there. Again, it's a long ways out to that point, so you should reward the people who get there.

I'd also try and get the barrels working correctly. They burst on one hit once they respawn. Aside from those minor issues, it's looking really freakin' good.
 
Are you actually naming it dm_dockside then?

:( caus that means I have to change the name for my map, as it was originally called dm_dockside about 2 weeks ago :/

edit: btw are there any servers with this map in rotation? I want to play it on a full server, care to upload it to the hl2.net server Pi Mu Rho? Would be fun, name a time for us all to go on too :)
 
if its 4 map contest you cant put it on public server right - i think the unpublished map rule is there so that you cant send to review sites and then use the feedback to improve/compare, etc...

Dont think so, they clarified the rules after I sent them an email, and it now says it cant be submited if it hasnt been published after december the 1st. So it should be fine to release the map.

Cool - thanks 4 that...did they mention custom skyboxes? Also,on a side note, does anyone feel concerned about posting pics here (call me paranoid but people could still ideas and maybe do them better - especially if its my idea :LOL: )

Your reward (apart from getting the IR rifle) is the vantage point over the yard.

Visibility blocking. That's why there's two containers in front of the door.

They're rewarded with the shotgun. The .357 is in the vicinity somewhere....

I tried to use the respawn logic from dm_lockdown, but it all went horribly wrong. If I can get it working properly, I'll use it. Thanks for the comments :)

I didn't mean to name it dockside - I was so busy trying to get it all done in time that I named it wrong. The final version will be called dm_dockyard, so your name is safe :)

If Munro agrees, I'd love to put it on the hl2.net server. I'll see what happens.

I got it working if you need some help with it. The only issue is that with their logic, barrels only respawn as a group once all of them are destroyed.
 
I can probably live with that. There's enough other debris around to keep people amused until the barrels come back. I can envisage a couple of situations where someone could deliberately prevent the barrels from respawning, but it wouldn't affect the game much.

Pi Mu Rho, I put it on our linux box with good pipe and it was hogging a lill, kept jumping around like bad lagg. I really wonna run it.
 
There appears to be an engine bug related to physics and water. I'm really hoping that Valve sort it soon.
 
Thanks man im dieing to run it, They also need to get the url redirect for DLing maps going, I got a T3 pipe and for everyone to DL the maps at a snails pace is driving me nuts.
 
I have two questions for you...

One, how difficult would it be to make this a standard HL2 map, as opposed to DM?

Secondly, would you be opposed to me using the map as a set for a short action piece I'm working on? My versions haven't turned out well yet.
