DM without halflife 2

Does anyone know if I could install steam and Half-life 2 deathmatch only?

I want to play at my cousins house, but I don't know if DM has its own files, or it borrows them from Half-life 2's.

Both, so you'll have to install HL2DM and HL2. Just use the backup program that Steam has to get the files you need. (Play Games--> Right-CLick on HL2DM --> Backup Game Files)

I'm backing up what seems like most of the source .gcfs, 3 CDs worth.
