do firewire cards need Drivers?

I have a 1337 (or something like that) firewire card. i would connect my digital camecorder to it to put videos on the computer but then i reformated..and now it wont recognize the firewire cable (i plug the cable in and nothing happens..) so should I download drivers or anything in specific?

The chipset on the firewire cards needs a driver but Windows XP should automaticly install that for you. You may need to look up the MS DV codec or other versions. It usually installs with other DV editing/transfer software.
