Well this kinda carries over from the "What Instrument Do you Play?" thread, but o well. Anyways, I just made a thread for everything about Ska. Any questions or stuff, here's the spot. Just a few of my favrites groups are:

Skatalites (The originals)
Inspecter 7
The Skoidats
Slow Gherkin
Madness
Squirrel nut Zippers

So many more...

Oh, and just to clear something up. When you heard skinhead, it doesn't mean neo nazi. Skinhead first referred to British kid that listened to ska in the 80s.

ska with a little bit of reggae/hip hop = my favorite

i am planning on starting a ska band in a few months.

There are many kinds of ska:
Hardcore/Oi! <- My personal favorite
Punk
Pop <- Disgrace to ska IMO
Original ^Like the skatalites
 
my friend introduced me to the O.C. Supertones. i've seen them live twice. best. concerts. ever. their sound is amazingly tight and they totally rock my face off.
 
Strange as it sounds, I like the lo quality sound. I don't know, it just sounds better to me for some reason.

I tried the radio stream.... it was ok, I like trumpets and stuff, but I do not <3 it... sorry ;)
 
so does ska basically mean trumpets and brass etc? cause thats what I am seeing so far :| drums and trumpet.
 
Guys your doing this all wrong... look around and see if any ska bands are coming to your town.. if they are go check them out in real life. YOU WILL NEVER I REPEAT YOU WILL NEVER EVER UNDERSTAND THE TRUE MEANING OF SKA UNTIL YOU GOTO A SKA SHOW. The people are always awesome, dressed in church suits, checkered shoes. Alot of skank pits. Like one ska show I went to this guy tried to give me ten cheeseburgers for no reason. Also the ska band members are usually very nice and lovey dovey.
 
I prefer reggae music without that heavy rock shit, I'd recommend Filibuster if you want really really good reggae/ska music.

Indeed.

Even though they aren't really 'ska', the Reel Big Fish concert I went to was like the best one ever :D

have a track of theirs on my playlist, they were pretty ok.

tmbg > all though :)

oh, and unless Reel Big Fish ever proclaimed they are Optimus Prime mid-song, no way was it better than the tmbg one I was at :P
 
I would consider Reel Big Fisha type of ska they have some nice stuff. if you want to hear some real ska that will make you dance skank or w/e download some planet smashers.
