Do you need a CS:CZ retail key or does Source version work as well?

I'm wondering if you really need a retail CD key for CS:CZ to be able to play the CS:S beta, or if I can play the beta as well when I buy CS:CZ online over Steam. When I buy it over Steam I don't get a CD key right? My account would just be enabled for CS:CZ?

I have the Online version of CZ and I'm in the beta.

But i'd strongly suggest not buying CZ just for the beta, for a start the Beta is not going to be that long and its money wasted IMO. And also because the beta is understandably rather buggy, ranging from working great to spray n pray.
