Do you remember your reactions when watching these HL2 vids for the first time?

Yeah, I was hyped. Especially during the Source Tech Demo.

Yes! I still have the Binks somewhere.. on some hard drive.

Coast was my fave.

Ahh yes those vids are so awesome, I wonder if we'll ever see the bioillumenscent tentacle thingy though.

i actually never saw them in '03, prolly due to my shitty internet at the time, first vid looked awesome, particularly the very first environment. Gameplay looked so much better, A.I too, using the table to block the door was neat.

Was the grav gun shown in early vids btw? I thought it was kept secret up to release?

Ahh yes, the strange whistle after we meet alyx. Also the strange thumping sound we hear after each video shows. At that time I had a 56k modem that actually ran at 15k. I had just beat HL in 2001 and was surprised at how good it looked. I mean we had Nazi type aliens and everything just seemed new. I let the first trailer download overnight because it took that long lol! Then I remember the beta. I still remember going into one of the Ravenholm rooms, the one where you go into the house with the engine and wrenches on the table. I just remember whacking at a headcrab and watching as each arm moved and was so amazed by it. Ahh memories. I feel happy that I'm one of those people that played in the WON days. *The server would scan your HD for cheats too. That was WON servers only lmao.
Did he throw the shotgun so he could use the rpg?
You could only use 1 weapon at a time. I can talk about anything in the beta too because I played it. The first trailer you see, the one with the zombie I played. The trees in the background are 2D and the rest is nothing. Also when you meet Alyx and the strider bursts through, it does nothing after that.

I remember watching traptown and being blown away, the grenade under the metal container, the swinging metal beams, the blade cutting things in half and the door blocking with the table. It was incredible to comprehend at the time. It had me hooked that I had to immediately download all the videos (luckily HL2.net provided all the download links) and I showed them to every person who came round my house. A special time indeed, I was content with my CS 1.5 until Valve basically said 'you've not seen anything yet'.

Anyone know where I could find the BINKs to all of them?

Ah yes, the orginal shock and awe the simple havoc physics engine brought us, all seems such a short time ago. Now, I pray to God, Gabe will release and episode 3 video, yeh.

Huh I still get my cd with 'em. I got that cd bundled with CS:CZ

I was so hyped after seeing these videos! Brings back a lot of memories, especially how excited I was when I first unlocked HL2 on steam! I want a HL3!

Oh god, I remember. I started shaking violently and running around the house, the walls (literally, I kid you not) screaming with joy.

the gameplay in those vids looked more exciting than the actual gameplay in hl2 imo. Also the draw distance when fighting the dropship after you jump the broken bridge, nowhere near that good in the final :|

I still have them all on my old computer.

Watched them all so many times, they were awesome.

I wasn't that into Half-life back then, and I was really quite blown away by the vids. HL2 remains the only game that actually lived up to my hype.

Never saw any videos :(

My interest in the Half-Life universe was sparked by a couple of HL2 screenshots and a review that made it sound like the best thing since sliced bread. Game was as good as they made it out to be, luckily.

I watched those vids maaany times like EP2 vids. But on EP2 ones I watched frame by frame sometimes to see all details :D

Only ever saw screenshots :/

Was the cover story of the first gaming magazine I ever bought.

My friend called me up said, "Hey, I saw this magazine cover with the Half-Life lambda followed by a 2!"

And then we both went - OMG!!1!1

These videos were simply mind blowing back in the day. I was so sure that this was going to be something HUGE.

The vids were so great that I was a bit disappointed with the final product, despite it still being very good.

To bad the physics and AI didn't turn out as well as those videos promised.

The physics and AI we got was better than what was shown there, what we saw was neither physics nor AI, it was scripted sequences.

I never saw them. In fact, I only barely became a fan 1 1/2 years ago. I've owned it since it came out, though. For CS:S.

The coast back then looked so much ****ing better than it does now in Highway 17. Not the gameplay, just the look and general feel of the place. I played Highway 17 quite recently and to be quite honest, those dull green hills, plains of sand and endless, empty oceans look so shite compared to the afternoon sky effect and general background stuff such as cranes and boats as seen from the start of the first video.

I loved the Bink videos. I've got this one memory of a video - and I swear it was HL2 in it's early stage - of the player wandering around a large back alley type area with... a crack running along the middle of the floor, maybe? The player then starts picking up objects from a work bench with the grav gun then starts flinging them up into the air. Anyone know this video, be it HL2 or otherwise?

I remember playing CS:S and everyone hacking away at computers to make them break. to hold us over til HL2 was released. Good times.

Anyone remember a vid of the player sitting in the back of a Jeep-like vehicle being driven by a rebel/Alyx through City 17 while a Strider crashed through archways and shit chasing you? I swear I remember seeing that somewhere.

I don't think I remember that one :O
Would love to see it!

does anyone have a link to the video demonstation of those with the stupid guy making the crappy 486 joke? I just wanna hear the audience reaction again for old times sake :p

I think that was a fan made story.

I haven't seen that video either

Ah, the memories.

I watched these videos over and over again. I thought it looked too real to be a game, too good to be true.

I have to agree. Draw distances in the leak were much higher than the one's we see today in hl2.

The physics and AI we got was better than what was shown there, what we saw was neither physics nor AI, it was scripted sequences.

Which VALVe insisted there were no scripted sequences.

I watched those videos religiously and grew increasingly hyped with every viewing.

When I finally got try the HL2 demo, I was extremely underwhelmed.
The opening sequence was the only thing that was awe-inspiring for me really.

The lies VALVe told us/me will never be forgiven.
