Do you think it was 'possible' that other type of soldiers were sent to black mesa?

We know the HECU and black ops were sent to BM to cover everything out but I believe that there was more type of marines/the army that were sent to black mesa but never seen.

Sergeants/other military ranks/agents are mentioned in announcements.

ok, to start this off I must say that I like to discuss lore from games/movies that I play/watch.
But this particular subject, I really do not care. And I find it hard for anyone to even think up this question, even more post a thread about it :s

So sorry, I don't accually care/know.

In the same way that there were Race-X aliens and male Black-ops running around the Freeman never saw, yes 'it's possible'. I'd just really rather there weren't

I already find it hard enough to believe that Black Ops were sent to BM to clean up the marines. The whole 'silencing the silencers' thing just felt like a transparent mechanism to fit in more human enemies.

You could add on yet another layer in your imagination, if you want, but only if they're chasing Black Ops and the marines to the tune of Yakety Sax.

I agree with your first part big time. The whole thing sending Black Ops seemed unnecessary in a way and exagerated.

But to answer TS I don't think any other soldiers except HECU nad Black Ops were there unless you mean different ranking marines which would prolly be there.

I'm pretty sure the only two organizations that were sent to Black Mesa were the HECU and Black Ops.

The Hazardous Environment Combat Unit was sent first, hoping to silence the personnel and easily take control of the situation. Well, they were foolishly wrong, and they began fighting for their lives against the alien forces from Xen. Eventually, most of the HECU forces pulled out, except for a few unlucky soldiers (like Shephard) who were unfortunately left behind. From this, we can assume that there were no other groups sent to Black Mesa to deal with the rapidly deteriorating situation, save the Black Ops, who were an elite force and far better than the HECU. But, they must've had some troubles too, especially with Freeman, so they decided to plant a bomb in the facility, ending Black Mesa's future and the situation for good. Well, I guess they didn't know that that wouldn't solve the problem, so thankfully Freeman killed the Nihilanth before the facility was destroyed.

This is pure speculation and there is no way this can be proven at all.

The question is more or less pointless. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

A foreign government intercepted messages regarding the BM incident and decided that absolutely no one should know this happened. So they sent out a small team of HK-47-like robots to kill all remaining people in the facility including the black ops. The robots would then self-destruct and the foreign officials who knew about this would take cyanide pills.

i can only think of an overwatch group. one that observes and only helps the black ops group make sure for certain no one gets out alive

The black ops were sent in AFTER the marines started pulled out after failing to control the situation. They were the last resort option, go in, clean it up and then nuke it.

I've always thought It did make a lot of sense. If the marines fail at their job, what do you do: send more marines? pull out and forget about BMRF? Or send in the "special" guys?

Or nuke the site from the air? Or have Black Ops take operational command, coordinating with the straggling HECU units instead of complicating (and eventually ruining) their own mission by stupidly shooting them up? 'Clean it up and then nuke it' hardly makes any sense anyway.

Besides, 'Black Ops' (in the form of the female assassins) were clearly there at the same time as the marines, working alongside them. Had they taken the form of a new enemy, rather than a clumsy reappropriation of an existing wing of the HECU, then maybe it would have been easier to swallow. As it was, they were barely any better conceived than Race X; just a plot device for more pew pew.

Makes you wonder why didn't they send the Black Ops from the get go.

Or why they kept the orders from the Marines so long. They just found out why they were there while still in the planes.

They probably underestimated the situation, and thought it would be an easy clean-up job.

They were wrong.

I believe that Shepard wakes up from the crash of his Osprey about a third of the way through Freeman making his way through Black Mesa. 15 or 20 Minutes in Shepard hears that emergency call for everyone to evacuate, where Gordon hears that same message 12 hours into the game.

Well that's pretty obvious since the Marines are sent in a while after the resonance cascade.
