That's part of the illusion of Master Chief. They never show his face, so you could imagine yourself in the suit cause you haven't seen his face otherwise.

I mean, they showed his face in books, but.. how exactly would we 'see' it? You 'read' his face. Its like clone troopers.. they grow up using real ammunition and such and all their friends get killed in test missions.
