just ordered a new sennheiser pc 150 (thanks to all of you that helped me choose) and I was wondering how much do you bf2 demo players actualy use mics/headsets? I guess it would come in handy if all your squad mates were similiarily equipped ...anyone have stories/comments on the usefulness of mics in-game

they're awesome for communicating with squad leaders individually or together if you're the commander, i use the ones that came with the UT2k4 DVD edition

In most pub servers with people just running around i found them pointless, mainly due to the fact no one listens and most people are talking french. But in the co-ordinated games with HL2.netters etc they'd be real handy.

I bought it for bf2 but I'll also use it in DoD, where I've seen teams work effectively together even having code words for various locations through out the maps

btw can only your teamates hear you when using a mic in bf2?

I probably talk too much. Good choice on the PC 150 by the way.

ya I think you were the one who brought it to my attention thx

btw ...be honest

do you guys have nasal whiney voices? ..sometimes while playing on xboxlive it was like I was back in highschool ...so many squeeky voices

I'm not sure how the VOIP works on BF2. I think if you're in a squad only your squad mates can hear you and if you're not only team mates who aren't in a squad can hear you. I really don't know how it works.

I know how it works for HL2 mods though. Only your team can hear you and for CS:S you only dead people can hear you when you're dead. That is unless sv_alltalk is on of course.

to talk to everyone on your team (USMC, MEC) press and hold B, to talk only to your squad press and hold v

I have a headset, but haven't used it yet. I haven't heard any voice yet either, but I've never been invited into a squad so that might be the reason. I'm sure if I ever play in serious matches I'll figure out how to use them for this game real quick. Oh and my voice is most definitely NOT squeeky.

Well there you go! That answers his question and it clears everything up for me.

Very rarely.

1. I have a mic I have to hold up :P
2. The speaker icon always goes red when I talk.

I will use it a lot more once my free preorder headset gets here.

You don't get invited to a squad, you join it in the squad tab. If you haven't played BF2 in a squad, you haven't played BF2.

All the time. You need to be in a squad to use VOIP. There's a "Push to Talk" button in the controls list that you need to have bound to talk with your squad. The "Com Channel" button is if you're squad leader and you're talking to the commander.

But why does my green icon always go red when I talk?

cuz rubbish is coming out of your mouth and it's a form of censorship? ....I could be wrong but that's my guess ;) :E

I was there and I specifically heard him saying:

"Get into the ****ing boat you ****ing pricks before I ****ing ass rape you with my ****ing twelve-sided double dildo you ****s."

I guess he left that part out to sound more innocent.

I'll take you up on that sometime :)

I probably won't be able to play until the full version comes out because my video card broke and it's getting repaired. I should have it either by the end of this week or sometime next week.

well lets see, I have an infant son at home, a wife, ongoing construction, recently purchased copies of GTA:SA, Boiling Point and a WoW gamecard ...I think it'll be awhile before I come a-knocking :)

I only have about a one hour window everyday that I can play anyway.

more is rare for me...unless it's a friday night and I dont mind dragging my ass the next morning ...(children dont care what time you went to bed)

you'd be surprised how much you want to when you have your own ...my son is more fun than any game ..recently he invented this game where he likes to stick crayons up daddy's nose

I VOIP, and I VOIP often. In order to be an effective squad, you need to be a communicating squad. Letting your teammates know where the enemy is in location if you spot them, among other things. I can't say how many times VOIP has saved us... like that whole thing with Redundant's boat swirving... it was the infantry in the boat that warned him the chopper was making an approach for an attack run.

as anyone who has played with me will tell you, Voip is my bread and butter.

And now thankfully people can hear me talk... lol.

Note to everybody. MIC BOOST IS A MUST. I couldn't activate mine in the bf control file, so what I did(and thanks to redundant), is go into the my documents, same place where screenshots are... but click on the profiles folder instead. Find your profile folder, then go into audio.com and make mic boost 1 instead of 0.

No one likes blues in BF2 :D (your squadmates appear green, while other teamates are blue)
