does anyone know where to doom 1 or 2 free?

Doom 1 and 2 are not abondonware so you wont find the games free anywhere - legal that is.

I know you can purchase the games through iD's own little webshop - last time i checked the whole package was like 10 bucks.

I don't know if it's allowed, I'll check to see if they're giving it out for free. Either way you can probably get Doom for Windows 95 really cheap.

Heh... ten bucks seems a little steep. You can probably find them for free with some searching.

Well I'm hyped for doom 3 so I wanna play the first two and final doom. They have a collectors addition with all three for $15.00 at gamestop, maybe i'll get it :D

I would personally say buy it because they are pretty fun games and worth the money, it just seems funny that id are selling hype.

well i'm saving money up to buy more RAM to play Doom 3, but 15 dollars isnt much  oh and it has some new Doom 3 stuff in it too

Don't forget about jDoom.
Id released the source code to the Doom engine and these people have reworked it to have loads of fancy graphical effects. Looks pretty good and plays well too.

They are abandonware but they arent at the underdogs... check some other abandonware sites or rings

If you play the original doom before play doom3 you will be impressed how much technology has evolved. :)

No doom 1 & 2 are not abandonware - i'd like to know where you got your info from mr. white

Aren't Doom 1 and Doom 2 shareware? They're on www.dosgames.com. That site only has freeware/shareware/demos so it should be legal.

The .wad files are still commercial. That is, the levels, graphics and other assets are not freedly distributable. The SOURCE CODE is free, so lots of different Doom modifications exist.

True DFC - there are shareware versions of both games - shareware, which back in the day :D were "demo´s".

I believe its only the 1st episode that is playable tho, but thats still like 10 levels.

Yeah, I just checked; Doom 2 isn't available. So, the shareware version of Doom is shorter than the actual version? I can't really remember Doom 1.

Just go buy the Doom Collector's Edition. $10 for Ultimate Doom, Doom II and Final Doom.
