does card makes make a big difference?

call me stupid but... i always see loads of different compaines making the same ati cards such as the Tachyon G9600 PRO and the Hercules Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB DDR but under different names(same chip, different companies made the card itself). now i understand that different cards have different features, like the Tachyon G9600 PRO have twin monitor out puts and the Hercules doesnt. but do different makes of the same type card/ati chip make any different to the acutall graphics and performance when playing a game?

i hope i made myself clear enough

also does anyone know what the g in Tachyon G9600 PRO means?

I assume every company has different clock speeds they set the cards too. Other than that, I dunno.
