I read as many reviews on just released games to get a better idea if I should buy or not, but sometimes I find that they are a bit inacurate (reviews tend to vary widely depending on what site you go to). Sometimes for me word of mouth is far better than any review as you find just as many negative reviews as you do positive. Doom3 is a good example ...I wasnt all that set on buying it before the game came out but after I read all of your comments I think I'll pass. How much do the people here influence your purchases.

Not at all really. Game reviews from a pure HL2 website seem to usually be a bit biased in my opinion. To use your own example of Doom 3, I've read almost nothing but bad things about it here. But I love the game and I'm glad I bought it.

yes i will pass on Doom 3 too, partly because of people on here and partly because of reviews

I probably wouldn't have bought Doom III if it weren't for this site, but that is the only game I can think of.

So, yes, I suppose.

well, I did read your comments about D3 ...so I wasnt really swayed in a negative way ...I think some of the comments here just cemented my reasons not to buy it ...that and the fact that it's $30 more expensive than most games (I bought farcry for $39 the day it came out)

$30 more expensive? Whoa. It was only 5 bucks (US) more than normal here.

hmmm it's $69 here ...well some stores will give you a copy of Kotor or Dues Ex2 for free ...it's a lot more expensive than most games ...I bought BF Vietnam for $39 the day after it was released

Yeah, $55. While normally games are $50. Pretty cool, though, because I get 10 bucks back because its on sale at Target (where I bought it) and they do that. :D

i listened to the early comments on doom3 from this site and then decided to attain the game, but i didn't like it nearly as much as other fps's i've played, and only after had i beaten the game did the negative comments on the game start to surface, yea....thanks a lot guys..... :dozey:

It hasn't so far but then again I have only bought one new game since Christmas. Most games I get are for the most part undeniably fun considering my personal taste and I usually know I am going to get them before they are released. Professional reviews simply confirm it is what I want and unless I hear something completely terrible from other people here I really won't be affected.

Mullinator for the most part I agree ...I usually know what I'm getting before hand but some games tend to be a disappointment (dont even try Soldner ...dont talk about it, dont even look at it ....crappiest game ever...although I wouldnt know cuz the demo never worked...even the newest one doesnt)

btw ...your new sig is an instant classic ...LoL funny :)

btw here are more quotes

If 10-20 people on the forums think a game suck, and some of them are people I know have a similar game taste, I'm not going to buy that game.

If it's a little vague, I read reviews and check out eventual demos before I buy the game.

Ya I got the quote from my calander, "365 stupidist things ever said".

Its too bad about Soldner though, it sounded so good. :(

I usaually rely on the demo or the game to make up my mind, but I lsiten to the people here.

Much like Mullinator, I know what I'm getting and I can tell if I will enjoy a game normally by reading about it on the website or in a magasine. In the case of Doom 3, I wasn't sure but from what people have been saying here I've decided not the get it.
I have been reading what they have been saying, not how they have been saying it, so effectively I've figured from what they say that I probably wouldn't like the game. From what I've read about Doom anyway, I don't think its really my cup of tea.

ya I was really looking forward to Soldner ...I deleted the demo after 2 frustrating hours

heh, I really enjoyed the Soldner demo, but I just couldn't get over certain frustrating bugs...Like, not being able to play most of the time.

Deleted soldner demo after 5 mins...because thats how long it took to load on my comp.

Ya its the same with me for Doom 3, however I plan on keeping my eye on it since if the mod community ends up being very successful it will probably become worth it to me.

I decided that I was going to wait a month or so before I made a decision on Doom really (Altough it does seem like I don't want it now) because, if after a month I'm not hearing much about it and people are generally just "meh" when they think of it, then I wont bother. By the time I get to a month, hl2 will probably be out or nearly out anyway, so it wont matter if I don't get doom :D

Any and all credibility the majority of you had has been lost with your Doom 3 shenanigans!

i'll normally play a demo. if there isn't a demo, then i might have a poke around General Gaming forum. most of the time, there are a few other gaming forums who have good taste in games, so i might check them out. no-one's opinion on this board has swayed me to buy or not buy a game (apart from Loke, his PR skills in promoting EVE were just too tempting :P ).

i've been glued to the Doom 3 forum since it's been released. kind of interesting to see a few people's reactions and stuff. still hasn't changed my mind but it helped reinforce it.

Well....everyone seemed to think doom 3 was going to be great but i stuck to my views. I dont listen to you guys since you are a fps loving community whilst I dont really like fps that much I prefere my RPGs

Yeah, I mostly listen to what communities have to say about games these days, but I do read reviews too.
