Did anyone else find the information found in the US PC Gamer to be mostly a restatement of what we could already find here? I drooled over the glossy pictures, but that was about it. Just wondering what everyone thought

that's good to hear. i saw the price tag of $9 and decided it wasn't worth it. i'm glad i didn't buy it now.

they take the vast majority of their information from this forum I have been told

Everyone does. No surprise really, is it?

How do we know print magazines use this forum?

It was basically the same in the UK edition as well. Mostly because its a two part preview.

Preview mag1= summary of all the information collected over the past year, before they could play test it this year
Preview mag2= the new information and screenshots continuing from the first part (they also play test it)

Hehe, not really. They playtested the game and spoke with the developers at Valve, that's where the info comes from.

1. You're one of the most active communities around.
2. You're the hub of all new info. If it's not here, it doesn't exist.
3. Many sites have their "agents" here :D. Spiffae being one of them. Me too actually :naughty:. Besides it's nice talking with all of you. With the possible exception of that Doom 3 retard in the other thread.

Just to cover all bases I'm not saying I don't like Doom 3 and I hate Doom 3 fans. Actually I look forward to play D3 when it hits the shelves. That retard is embarrasing all D3 fans. :dork:

what do you mean by "agents" like people from other sites that take info from this forum and put it on to thier site?

The play test felt like a tease though... So he set a fire behind a enemy... i saw that in the traptown video not just a picture... no biggie... I guess i am just jaded.. all i want in the game in my hands..I don't want to hear about other people playing the game i would give my left leg for.

The only reason to start hyping HL2 now is because they think it will be released soon. But then again, Valve's definition of 'soon' is far different from most people's understanding of the word.

It NOT saying HL² on the frontside could be considered a hint...

I agree however theres no real new information, I didn't expect so eighter though. Didnt they warn us about that?

Because a lot of the information they tout was found here first. For example: making the strider a drivable vehicle. Also, I think UK PCGamer actually said that their "background" Part 1 article included lots of information that had come out on the net: and most of it was stuff that people found out from the info thread. :)

well it was nice to hear about someone actually playing the game and enjoying it. if someone didnt buy it, the most important part of it is that HL2 may very well exceed our expectations.

I have to say i am getting bored waiting for half-life. :frown:
Could the leaked code be an exuse to smokescreen a late unfinished game.
With the deal with Ati graphics cards they had to have something to show,
and funny how the Nvidia cards performed poorly? Am i being too cynical here? Lets hope it doesn't dissapoint! :bounce: :farmer:

You guys need to look for the CD-less version. It's half the price of the one with the demo disc.

Nope. Valve has specifically and repeatedly denied that the delay had any thing to do with the code theft. They had made their decision to delay before their system was hacked. The security compromise only lengthed the delay, but it didn't cause it.

The whole alleged poor nVidia performance was nothing but an ATi publicity stunt as evidenced by the fact that Valve slammed ATi's biggest competitor at a press event sponsored by ATi! If that doesn't say, "CONFLICT OF INTEREST!" in 12 inch high flashing red letters then I don't know what does.

Furthermore, nVidia quickly (and I'm talking within two weeks) released updated drivers that fixed many of Valve's complaints and they have since redesigned their hardware eliminating every weakness pointed out by Valve. Valve could have privately released their information to nVidia and gotten the same results, but they obviously felt they needed to publically torpedo nVidia for ATi's benefit.

At this point, either brand of card will give you optimal performance in Half-Life 2 thus rendering Valve's earlier criticism moot.

Lets hope it doesn't dissapoint!
As over the top enthusiastic as the preview articles have been, I don't think that's going to happen.

"Agents" might have been a bad word to describe what I wanted to say, but, well... yeah. As stated in point number one.

And if I offended you Spiffae, I'm sorry. Here's a, uh, rabbit :imu:?

Just to be on topic...

I'd rather wait for E3 to clear things up a little than try to form an opinion based on current info, which itself is good news, 'cause it means the game is going to be released soon (just a few months).

That thing about Gabe being in talks with the US secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld about lending HL2 technology is crazy.

Keep that crazy bastard away. With all the creepy Orwellian occupation stuff in HL2 that valve has us resist against, it'd be a shame to give HL 2 technology to the administration that wants to put in the Patriot Act... Maybe even use HL2's technology to train US troops to be like the combine?

Come one. PCGamer where VERY amazed by HL2. That should send a message to everyone that it will be very well a good wait. Come one, I doubt you don't wanna continue the HL story.

PS: Don't bring up politics and hate here.
