okay, i played few mmorpg for example star wars galaxies, i get 30 fps and it goes down rapidly, and in cs i get like 120fps max.

my specs:

pentium 4 intel 2.4
256ddr 2700
9600xt 128

if you have more ram would it increase fps? for example if i buy a 1gb ram, how much will it increase my fps?

I'm getting pretty tired of you starting threads in the wrong forum section, start getting it right from now on.

Fool, it only increases ur fps if ur computer is already good. If ur comp sux then it wont do anything but make loading faster.

 10% increase if you upgrade to 1 Gig, I dunno.

All it will do is make the computer load levels and things faster...nothing more...

Actually I would venture that if his ram isn't enough to handle all textures etc on screen at one time that it could be affecting his performance. 256 isn't that much anymore, and I've always recommended 512mb for really modern games.

If u gunna buy Ram, the more chips the better. so if u wanted 1 gig of ram get 2 512 sticks instead of 1 gig stick. Allows for more bandwidth.

If you don't have enough memory then the application will use a swap file and it will sit on your harddrive which is slow.
If you get more memory then more of the swap file can sit in actual memory and it won't slow you down.

If you have WinXP then I would suggest at least 512mb total.

Yeah, you don't really want 256 anymore. Also, along the lines of what asus was saying, if you turn up your virtual memory setting you may get a performance boost.

Obviously it speeds up loading time.
I know with the Ut2004k demo i had 256 megs of ram... Ran on medium settings...
Upgrades to 512
Could put them all on high with the same performance as 256..

Ewww!

Let's get some basics sorted first. RAM is only usefull beyond a certain level with current games. At least 1GB with Far Cry on an XP machine with Uber features on or your current specs with Half-LIfe.

XP is hungry, in that it needs at least 256MB to get up & running smoothly. When you add games to the mix, it needs at least 512MB for most recent stuff. High end games, needs more, even when your GFX card is decent.

Why does your mmorpg go downhill so rapidly? Mostly due to RAM. But the usual caveat is what is running in the background. For example, have you loads of AIM/IRC/Coolmon type of tasks running? Do you have Norton (a notorious CPU hog) aps running? Either research a better set-up or disable these apps. Perhaps you should look at http://www.blackviper.com/ for turning off needless XP services too.

HTH & Good Luck

yea i use ad-aware/msconfig to clean up my pc regularly... tis clean, i never load messengers ne way

Ok well first off SWG is ungodly horrbily unoptimized. The only spot ram would help you is when you are in town with 15 people on screen. It would help some but I am not talking about having it be perfectly smooth.Anywhere else ram wouldn't do much of a difference except for loading. SWG is a lot more newer than CS and is graphically a lot better than CS as well thats why you have such a differerence in FPS.
