retailers seem to be listing like 10 different books just search half-life 2 on gamestop or eb.. theres the mod makeing book the raising the bar style book and the prima one.. THE AGONIZING CONFUSION

Sounds like raising the bar, so no you wouldent have to buy it if you went retail. I just wish that for the 90 bucks I spent on steam I wouldent have to go out and buy the book :farmer:.

Do a search on the forums, look in the Info. from VALVe section, and Gabe says that what comes with the retail collectors edition is a Prima sampler which is part strategy guide, and a 100 pieces of art work from the Raising the Bar book... the Steam GOLD version comes with the COMPLETE STRATEGY GUIDE... this is not RAISING THE BAR!!! Raising the Bar is something that we are all going to have to buy at the store ie. Barnes and Noble etc...
Raising the Bar is 384 pages long... this is not what is included in ANY version of Half-Life 2... WHEW, I had to get that off of my chest!!

from what i've read, its only a sampler book. It includes stuff from the strategy book and it has some art and such from the raising the bar book as well. It's not something you can buy at the store, it's only available through the collector's edition

Personally, I would have preferred that the Raising the Bar book came with the Gold package. That would have been SWEET.

shampoo CE wont get you that book either. Prima is in charge of that book. Valve would have to do a buyback type deal to put that book in gold. That book is in limited quantity as far as i know. Thats why they arent giving that book with any particular product.
