If any of you are familiar with the boombox project, at one point you have your speakers (which have 20 subdivisions), and you have circles (which also have 20 subdivisions) a slight distance away fromthe edges of these speakers.

What is supposed to happen, is that you "merge" the circles (which are really the holes in a polymesh that you created earlier) with the speakers. This should close in the tiny gaps b/n the circles and speaker edges.

I have had extreme difficulty with this, as it seems that circles with "20 subdivisons" really seem to have 3 times that amount. Im pretty sure the problem is that there are too many vertices on the circles to merge with the speakers. In the link you can see this:

Am I doing something wrong to have circles with more subdivisions than I configured them to have? Any help is greatly appreciated as I am using the free HL2 version and have no documentation and cant find any online.

I can't really help you with the boombox, I had some problems myself, and decided to do some other stuff instead. I couldn't even get the speakers' shape right, it was really annoying...

Don't get too caught up on the official tutorials, just try to get comfy with the interface, and then do something that interests you instead! I've started modeling a shotgun instead (I've got a little modeling experience from 3dsmax) and it's loads more fun, imho.

Good luck :)

I've never done that particular tutorial, but considering the amount of work Softimage have on all the time I wouldn't be surprised if their tutorials slipped up from time to time. Saying that it might be an outside tutorial from someone else, and sometimes mistakes are made (tutorials are pretty difficult to do really, always stopping and starting and trying to discribe everything in a way people will understand) Course you could teach yourself a little extra by trying to find out what went wrong :)

Or you coulda just hit duplicate a few extra times or something without realising :)

Get softmonkey to have a look, he should know, I've got the power going off randomly here now so I'm not switching on the machine with XSI on to check it out.

i wish i even knew how to work XSI... for me its just a waste of time and space...

~P.S~ i have lots of time on my hands and im shure if i knew how to make models... i could make some decent ones...

well i seemed to "fix" it, but it still bothers me.

A circle with 20 subdivisions actually has 60 like i was observing. This really bugs me, as the circle should have 20. I dont know if there is some hidden multiplier somewhere or something, and if someone could point me to it i would be greatly relieved.

Anyway, knowing this pattern, I simply remade the meshes and circles when i finally merged the meshes it all worked out, but i wish there couldve been an easier way.

If this isnt making sense my apologies. It is horrendously hard to explain as i am still trying to figure it out myself.

I should really get in touch with softmonkey. I could make his life hell by asking question after questions :P jk
