I find that when I get hyped about a game (i.e dead rising, GOW), I get giddy as a school girl when they finally arive. IMO, this adds a satisfaction to buying games instead of making them just another filler of void time. what do youz guys think? do you find it fun to jump on the hype train or do you stand aside and shake your head in disgust?

No. And in my country, its called Hype (see thread title). :P

It certainly fills the time, but it can also be a pain if the game doesn't live up to the inflated expectations that hype is inclined to inspire. I don't think it could ever make a game more fun. That is for when I haven't heard much about a title and then play it and am blown away by how amazing it is.

For me, the hype is the part of the game...the actual time you are waiting for the game and building hype is one of the best times you can experiance with a game. However for some games, it totaly ruins it when the game is released.

For me, i have lost all hype for the half-life episodes. Dont get me wrong, they are all great, masterpieces but they are missing the hype hl2 had.

Have a hype for Portal and C&C 3 (however from the latest shots released its decreasing)

right now? My messiah hype is at top, im unlocking it on steam right now OMGOGMOGOMGOMOGMOGOMGOM

Hype is dependant... it can add to the game if the game is already good by itself, although I do find games that haven't been hyped (or that I havn't been paying attention too) more praiseworthy than hyped games. Black and White, for example, did not live up to the hype. Portal hopefully will live up to the hype that I am generating for it myself. :D

Half-Life and Deus Ex are good examples of games that slipped under my radar, snuck up on me, and cut my throat with surprise at how awesometastic they were, without hype.

Generally no, since most games with significant hype typically never reach that plateau of expectations I built for it. Over the years I've definately toned down my hype and recognize what might actually meet it (Okami, Shadow of the Collosus, etc.) Lionhead in particular, comes to mind where the games let me down so much that I just gave up and uninstalled it within a week (Fable being only exception, but even then I only finished it because I was close anyway).

It's rare that a game is better than what the hype surrounding suggests. If a game exceeds our expectations then hype can make it seem all the better :)
