I think I PMed a mod about this, but that was a wile ago and they probably forgot...........anyway, this was my suggestion......

You've got Dog under the Allies list.....but no picture.......

Why don't you just use the picture from the concept art page?

And why is Vortigaunt on the Allies thing? I didn't find out about them being allies till I looked at a site with Beta stuff..............was there some thing Valve said that I missed?
 
I can probably help to answer this a little... Fender, we haven't officially been told what DOG looks like. Most people would probably know by now, but it was supposed to be a surprise, and I'd imagine that any aknowledgment of the beta's revelations, in any form, is frowned upon here.

As for the Vortigaunts, VALVe have said on several occaisions, both in online previews and magazines, that the Vorts are your allies this time. We don't know why, how, or when it happened, but apparently that's the way it is now. Which, I think, is kinda cool. I liked the Vortigaunts in HL...
 
Brian Damage, there is one official concept art from the Dog.
 
An official, unnamed concept art. A lot of people know that that is DOG from the beta and beta spoilers, yes Sprafa, but VALVe never officialy said so. So anyone who points out the pic is technically using information gleaned from the beta.
 
I'm pretty sure it wasn't called that originally... if it was, PCGamer would have picked up on it when they printed that very piece of concept art in their article...

I'd heard about it before. I'm pretty sure it was info given out by Valve last year.
 
Never seen it in any official stuff. Ever.

They gave out the concept art, but never told us that one of them was DOG.
 
I believe that there were two bits of information - one that Alyx had a robotic companion called DOG, and that piece of concept art.

For whatever reason, the two became associated (probably because it's pretty damn obvious) and it's never been gainsaid.
 
Exactly, never been said directly. They only said that DOG was Alyx's pet robot, and that it looked nothing like a dog. People made some guesses (Some even thought that the assassiness pic was DOG), and some guessed right. They never told us what it looked like. If they had, I'd imagine it'd be in some screenshots.

Anyway, point is, even if some people know what DOG looks like now, DOG's pic still shouldn't be in the allies section, as it was supposed to be a surprise...
 
If you want to be surprised in the game I don't recommend looking at any of the pages on the site :) I believe it was Gabe who confirmed the image was of Dog by email. I can't remember if it's in our Valve info thread or not.
 
Hmmmm... that gives me an idea...

If one of you fellows can be bothered, maybe it'd be a good idea to sort the eMail info into sections (Characters, Engine mechanics, etc) and put it somewhere in its own section on the site...?
 
BTW... couldn't search "DOG" so I did a search on "robot"... no info in the Info thread...

Anyone want to do a manual search? I cringe to think of it.
 
like i said the dog looks exactly like that concept in-game (havvent dl'ed beta but have seen beta imgs)

Well, it looks like we've found the answer whether we wanted to or not. In any case, if Gabe actually said it was DOG then that's pretty much the clincher.

I feel like a dumbass for asking this, but I cant picture the vortigaunt in my head. Anyone feel like reminding me what it looks like?
 
Green alien. Big red eyes. Kind of cowardly. Shocks you with green bolts. Says "Die" and "We give up." Makes a rattling noise when it dies. You know the type. ;-)
 
Thanks, now I remember. I believe they were sort of "slaves" to the grunt aliens. Theyre probably fighting on your side to get back at their "masters". But thats a topic for the Rumor and Speculation thread...

That's the point, Sulkdodds, he didn't...



On another note, I never noticed that the Vortigaunts say "We give up."...

But I was playing OP4 today, and I think one of the things they may say is "Die human scum!", or something along those lines...

It's always hard to tell... they sound like they're speaking under water...

Hmmm... thread idea... how about a thread devoted specifically to unraveling the mystery of what the heck the Vortigaunts are saying?
