If I even said this game’s title to delightful girlfriend, she’d probably get a little tearful, because she hates to think of the hurting of hounds. But this forthcoming game isn’t about two hungry dogs dropped in the pit in the back of an essex pub. No – Dogfighter’s about plane-shootiness. It’ll be out on June 14th on Steam for twelve quid. Since it’s an unproved dev, I wouldn’t normally post about it pre-release… but its trailer is actually really quite nifty, showcasing its arena-set flight-lunacy. Not as mad as Illusion Softwork’s great-lost-game (NOT REALLY!) Flying Heroes because there’s no teapots of death, but it’s giving it a good shot in a Crimson-Skies-kinda-way.

An old classmate of mine from our gaming course is working on this. he works for a company called Darkwater thats pretty local too me.

>Flight Simulator

>Planes flying around in tunnels and shooting plasma

Right. Looks riveting!

It said it wasn't a simulator! :O

Looks ok, I reckon I'd get bored of it pretty quick though D:

Looks pretty cool, would be awesome if there could be large hl2.net games.

But like Ren said, it takes a lot for a multiplayer game to keep my interest for any length of time. Does it have a strong single-player campaign or is multiplayer it?

From what I heard they're working on trying to make it a strong MP (whatever that means)

I think the SP is basically an offline mode with bots.

Twelve squids? Where am I gonna find that kind of sealife?

Doesn't look like it'll offer much to keep me hooked.

$12 isn't that much, and looks fun, but.... I don't know. Need a demo to play with first.

Its £12 not $12.

Also, it doesnt seem to actually be on Steam.

I'm going to say I liked Crimson Skies more even though I haven't played this.

Just played the beta, was interesting, you can use a 360 controller too which i say is recommend as the mouse control is beyond awkward if you don't set it right.

I've been messing around in Dogfighter against bots at lunch, and it's pretty good. It's the rebellious offspring of a grim aerial combat simulator, with all the fuel gauges painted out and machine guns out the wazoo. They've just released this video, have a peek:

It's basically Quake III in a flat-top. Massive arenas riddled with shortcuts and weapon pickups, from mines to rocket launchers and all manner of bullet launching apparatus. It'll be about £12 on steam when it launches on the 14th of June, and it'll probably be a hoot.
