Ladies and Gentlemen, this may be old news, and it may be happening in Canada instead of Japan; but as you can see, reality is ****ed up.
The 33-year-old inventor is chasing a dream - of building the perfect domestic companion. Working out of his parents' home in Brampton, Ont., he ranks as an underdog compared with the scores of large corporations, academics and other hobbyists around the world pursuing serious robotics.
"It's challenging. I'm pretty proud of the software," he says.
Mr. Trung has been tinkering with robots since Grade 3 and for the past year has channelled his energy into Project Aiko, which he believes could lead to humanoid helpers for hospitals, retirement homes and even airports.
"She can recognize faces, she can identify medication, she can even butter your toast," he says.
