Just heard on the news this morning. Unfortunatly it's breaking news so I couldn't find anything on the internet just yet. Looks like the Bush administration is starting to fall apart slowly.

no, this was a LONG time coming
it's smart thinking by Bush dumping the key architect of the war so that 1) they can distance themselves from Iraq and 2) if the Democrats push for hearings, Rumsfeld will no longer be a member of the government
simple as

He should hang next to saddam. So should Bush, and Blair. They've all got blood on their hands - Combined, even more so than Saddam.

Bush is giving his speech now. Watching it on CNN.

Holy shit, why aren't they speaking about this? It's not on BBC... It's on CNN, though, so I guess it's true.

Why am I suspicious that we haven't seen the last of him?

And that his worst act of infamy is still to come?

just heard bush make the formal announcement on cnn.
good riddance,but will anything change?

Good news indeed. Take that! anyone who thought nothing would come of the interesting mid-terms elections!!!

Well, its good that hes gone, but he's probably moving on to a better paid job in the corporate sector. Bastard.

Meh, he wasn't doing a good job, but this isn;t necessarily going to change anything.

It's a little bit of both. Militants in Iraq will keep on fighting the Americans and each other. Afghanistan will remain a quagmire. But I do think the exit strategy for both those countries will be put in higher gear. And I hope American international relations will be less dominated by the Pentagon. Condi Rice still seems the only voice of (some) reason in this administration.

Oh great! And they're replacing him with a former head of the CIA! Because the CIA have never done anything to cause the deaths of millions!
I doubt this will change much, if anything.

Probably. Bastard.

He used to be the CEO of the company that my Dad used to work for.
I know someone who has met him D:

Would you prefer they replace him with the head of Greenpeace?
To me, a senior defence expert sounds like a good choice for the Secretary of Defence. But for the life of me, I can't think why...

Except that Bush refused to fire him.

Obviously you're not going to choose someone from the wrong field but my point was that this does not mean anything is going to change with regards to the US's aggressive foreign policy.
I would have hoped that my inclusion of the phrase "I doubt this will change much, if anything." would have clarified that, but apparently not.

There are so many irrational and ill-thought out "**** the system, maaaan" anti-US comments around here it's sometimes hard to tell.
It doesn't help that your name makes you sound like a certain Communist revolutionary. :D

My first reaction was "yay", but that was followed by a more lingering sensation of "why the **** did it take three years?"

YAY!!

*waves banner*

But I wont be satisfied till Powell is humiliated too.

....

I thought Powell was the only man in the Bush adminstration everyone still respected.

I know I've always liked him.

Me too. They scapegoated him and I have always hated them for it. He's a good man.
