really? i know Eva is being a bit repetitious, but what about, oh i dunno, Dragon Ball series? One Piece? Inuyasha? THOSE are series that go on and on my friends.

Evangelion is more like the Star Wars franchise of anime. Every few years the director makes a new version or updates old ones with newer effects and scenes.

oh, and here is a link to the official trailers:

Dragon Ball series
Toriyama didn't want to work on anything after the Freeza saga. Everything else was people clamoring for more, so he gave them more. Even after Z ended the property was so hot Toei did GT, and Toriyama was like "Lol I'm getting off this failboat."

One Piece
Oda's said One Piece has gone on longer than he'd envisioned. Things are starting to head toward what might be a conclusion, with what's going on with Whitebeard and Shanks, and the military and the Shichibukai.

Plus, unlike most shonen series One Piece STILL doesn't feel old after all these years, simply because Oda's like, "I'm going to write about some crazy shit every week." And then he just adds pirates.
Rumiko Takahashi cannot write a proper ending and drags ALL of her stories out to ridiculous lengths.

The difference being that Lucas is a crackpot who changes things on a whim to the chagrin of Star Wars fans, while Eva is more like the fans going, "THIS ENDING IS SHIT! WRITE A NEW ONE!" Is it any wonder the manga is still ongoing? They can't decide on an ending for it. There's a doujinshi out there that has an an accepted ending for Eva, while the real manga does not!

Hmmm. ill agree with the crackpot view. but i still think that these new films are just a result of milking the cash cow. Besides if Hideaki Anno really made End of Evangelion to appease the fans that hated the shows ending, he failed pretty bad. EoE was really messed up and the ending pissed even more people off. With all the weird, philosophical wankering he put into the second half of the movie, I don't think he really cares about fans reactions (at least not that much). He just cares about getting a pay check :)

I think he cares, which is why the manga's ending has been "reserved." Waiting on one the fans like and then having another go at it. I'm sure he's not so callous as to say, "I don't care what the fans like, I just want to be paid."

Which is rather unlike George Lucas, except for him it's, "You're a fan? I don't care what you like. I hate your guts. Ghost Anakin in ROTJ will be young, Greedo shoots first, AND THERE'S A STORY IN MY HEART I HAVE TO TELL. It involves Jar Jar."

well, i didn't mean that he doesn't care at all about the fans. Im sure he does to an extent, and this may have been a direct result in the making of EoE. But, if he made EoE because of the fans complaints about eps 25 and 26, then why did he put more of the same in EoE? sure, we get to see the end of the world (more or less) but not without watching 20 or 30 minutes worth of existentialist dialogue.

I liked eps 25 and 26 btw, but from reading different forums about this subject, i am in the minority.

I dunno, man.

Really I don't care at all about Eva and I don't care about the endings because I'm accustomed to anime/manga series having bad ends. Everything always seems to go to shit at the end of most series. I don't know what it is but I guess most mangaka just can't write an ending to save their lives.

yeah, bad endings happen way to often. Ive actually avoided series or movies that had horrible conclusions. there's barely enough crap out there with moderately good endings that i don't need to be wasting my time with the bad.

except eva.

I'd be curious to know what endings Darkseid thought were good.

Cowboy Bebop had a nice ending, I thought.

I second this and code geass had a great ending as well.

All the endings are the same, babycakes.
Spend $60 on the N64 Evangelion. Get the best alternate ending.
