Don't let "HL2" slip through the cracks!

I have posted a message on the Half-Life 2 board on IGN.com, saying that we should not repeat the back-to-back 1999's cancellation of the Babylon 5 game.

We are pleased that Doug Lombardi, Valve Software's director of marketing, said that Valve is currently targeting this summer for the completion of Half-Life 2. However, unless Half-Life 2's publisher, Vivendi, postpone the HL2 release date to until when it's done, it will be gone by next month. Gamers will lose their chance for the next few months to play Half-Life 2, and the Half-Life series could come to an end.

URGENT! With an April 2004 date is fast approaching and time is running out, the possibility of playing Half-Life 2 looked very grim. If Valve misses the firm date, Valve get sacked, which would result in a cancellation of Half-Life 2 and a discontinuation of the Half-Life series. We strongly urge that Valve should NOT be sacked.

i strongly urge they don't put HL2 in a net accessed compyter so strange things likle the game being stolen don't happen

Not a chance in the world, and never officially acknowledged as a release date.

Uh? why would one of the most antissipated games of 2004 be canceled?

This is a strange thread indeed. Vivendis release date is TBC (to be confirmed), there's nothing about April anywhere.

Why would Vivendi sack (break their contract?) with Valve anyway? That would be like throwing away your winning lottery ticket. And if Vivendi did give them the boot a hundred other publishers would be tearing eachother apart to try and sign Valve.

Strange...

Plus VALVe have Steam to publish games through now anyway, you know, as a last resort. All this stories of HL2 being cancelled are getting annoying.

Dude... only one question for you: WTF?

Valve is financially independent from VU Games, the only one loosing by sacking Valve is VU cause they'll be missing out on one of the best selling games of 2004.
Valve doesn't need VU to develop HL2, and if they're sacked, they're plenty of publishers wanting to publish HL2.
And even in the extremely unlikely case of not finding a publisher, they still have Steam to publish it.

plus valve arent tied to any publisher. they fully fund themselves. plus WTF IS THIS THREAD it makes no sense and is very silly.

I think Bryan just enjoys writing sentences totally devoid of meaning or logic.

get your pitch forks, get your torches, lets hunt this mutha down!!

I say we go to Valve and request the head of the one known as Newell

Wow, great thread.

Thanks for creating something everyone could come together and mock.

lol, this is a funny thread :)

As has been said, the "April" date has been changed to TBC, HL2 has no current firm release date, and Vivendi would be morons to sack HL2 -- even if they did (they won't), VALVe would have no trouble finding a new publisher.

Woooo...

Weirdest thing I've seen all day. And I saw Friggy eat a lightbulb not two hours ago.

Babylon 5 Game: semi succesful sci fi series with no Fanbase for Computer games.

Half life 2: sequal to arguably the best FPS ever and dead certian to make massive proffits.

Two completely different games.

Your wrong. very very wrong.

I see Bryan See hasnt done his homework before starting this thread

Im wondering why did Valve choose VU games as thier publisher anyways?

Because Sierra was VALVe's publisher, and Sierra was purchased by VU, I think.

Bingo bango, sugar in the gas tank! :)

i think this guy is on crack or somthing :/ this game will never be canceled there is to much support for it

I say we ban the guy for a day or two to give him time to check into Valve's funding (self funded) and some basic HL facts.

And lock this thread.

Yeah, because if the game were delayed for a few months, no-one would want it.
Good thing it was never delayed!
Because if it were delayed for, say, five months beyond the release date, Valve might as well give up!
:O

well atleast he tried in a civilised way...

the thread was so confusing and nonsensical i'm surprised you can even tell whether he did infact reply in a civilised way or not. i sure as hell can't

Actually if I understand things, Valve and VU aren't on happy terms. There might be some truth behind it, but more that Valve wants VU to drop them so that they can get out from under their drain. Perhaps Valve is intentionally delaying with the hopes of being dropped by VU(not likely, but possible).

I think this thread needs closure. This isn't true at all...

lol! Dude, VALVe has been working on HL2 for five years. If they cancelled it, their company would be dead within 1 month. You don't just cancel something that you have poured all your money, time, thought, and work into for the past five years. Seriously, if you even think for one second that they will cancel Half-Life 2 then you are pretty stupid.

You people need to be patient. It will all be finished someday, most likely from June-July '04. VALVe could release Half-Life 2 at whatever time of the year and it would sell so well that they would gain all of the money that they spent on it back and then some on it's first day of sales. They will not cancel it. It is the most anticipated, most high-budget, and most high-profile game currently in dvelopment.

For all we know, Half-Life 2 could have had a whole remodel from the last time we saw it. They could have improved the enigine greatly, made the graphics even better, and changed some story. Trust me, they are probably working on this game all day everyday from when they get there in the morining to late at night. Their offices are probably filthy because all they have time to do is work.

When (if) they show HL2 at E3 this year, it will blow all of you away and destroy every other game. It is going to be great.

My thoughts exactly, and this is the 2nd thread this guy has started on this subject, someone please, close it
