ohhh it got such a low score in originality ...anyone have a translation of the article or is that copyrighted material?

I could translate it but its 9 pages long (10 including the screenshots)

EDIT: so I wont.. takes way to long to do it...

Pfft. Weakling. I'll just go lerk on some Doom 3 websites then. :P

There's been four reviews? PC gamer, PC Powerplay, this one, and what's the fourth?

Can you just translate the part on why the originallity was low?

I'l try to make a small summary of the things that are said, but I have to read it myself first, and there are also some new images from Unnreal Engine 3.0 in there, more outside shots with the monsters in it.

anyway.. stay tuned

Well, first there was the Pc Gamer review. Then I remember reading about one review, and then another one pretty much the same day or something. It was a review that wasn't allowed to give a rating.

Ah, ok. A review that isn't allowed to give a rating? Doesn't that pretty much take away the whole idea of reviews? :)

Well, it gave ratings for sub-categories like graphics and stuff, just no overall rating. :)

I wanna know what it gets in the PC Gameplay.

so true, the only mag I trust. Bijna alle nederlanders hier lezen pcgameplay!

[dutchmode] pc gameplay = teh suxxorz, belgische humor is lame :) [/dutchmode]

Anyway, doom3 hasn't gone under the 9.0 in any of the scores yet.. pretty impressive for a game from a developer who untill now made oldskool fragfest games.
It appears they CAN make good story based games.

6/10 in originality.....hmmm...I suppose they cut points probably due to the supposedly half-life esque starting presentation, and according to many reviews "the lame attempts at humour". Ne way, can't wait for 5th!

So when do you think we'll start seing online reviews?

and the fact that the game's a remake, maybe? :p

EDIT: @seppo: when the game comes out for people to start airing their opinions about it probably ;)

it got a low score because it was a remake, i should slap the sh!t out of you, HL isn't the only game to ever have a alien themed story.

hey crushenator, I've noticed you always put a song title in all your posts ...what gives? subliminal messages?

*Stern runs out to buy They might be giants cd*

Well, ID isn't really known for their original, super-groundbreaking gameplay. They've, what.....worked on 2 franchises for the past 15 years basically. I mean, it's essentially a remake of Doom. How could originality be very high?

No, you may not "slap the shit out of me" :frown: because I'm just basing my comments on what I've heard from earlier reviews. True it's a remake, and I missed the point of why it's not so original, but the HL thing I said is based on earlier reviews. Believe me, I'm as unbiased as you are when it comes to a Doom III, and forgive me if it came across as though I'm some picky HL fanboy.

Screenshot of cyberdemon eh? Can u pm it to me? I want to see the cyberdemon

I rarely listen music when I browse the forums anymore, dunno why .. hmme puts on Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

Okay, I guess I should have said they been working on 2 franchises for like 10 years. Wolfenstein was released in 1992, nearly 13 years ago. Carmack did indeed work on Commander Keen but I believe it was developed by Apogee, and it certainly was developed before Wolfenstein. Hexen and Heretic were developed by Raven, not ID. Sorry.

The point is, they've worked on 2 franchises (Doom and Quake) for a long ass time. I'd say that tends to stifle originality a little.

http://www.martianbuddy.com/ is the website you have to visit for one puzzle in doom3 and that little robot (alien) creature we saw in the movie, is on your side

Spoiler tags are there for a reason.

Americans are going to have Doom 3 at least a week before I get it so I don't want to see stupid spoilers all over the place.

If the mods want to change they do so.. unfortionatly I did not think about putting it between spoiler tags at that moment because I was still reading the article.. and when I finished I thought.. hmm.. should have put that in spoiler tags, but it was to late..

edit: so it would have been nice if you concider this when you complain about the lack of spoiler tags in your next complain post, not all people respond as a dead corpse when they are reading a pretty neat and exciting review about their highly awaited game and want to share some new stuff with the community, I for example was pretty exited because I am following this game since 2000.

Enemy spoiler:

The Cyberdemon looks pretty damn badass. But if that's the boss, I hate them for spoiling him already

The PC Zone's points of criticism is that Doom 3 maintains the classic gamedesign of get key A for door B where you will find key C for door D and it's all a bit repetitive with hallway filled with enemies after hallway filled with enemies. But it also says that can be forgiven with the cool enemies that you will face.
The review also doesn't include the multiplayer portion, so the entire game is not reflected in the reviewscore.
