Doom 3 Game of the Year 2004?

Is Doom 3 going to be the Game of the Year 2004 ?

And what is it based on? most sold copies? highest ratings in PC Game magazines?

Is there an official game of the year award worldwide or does every PC magazine has its own awards?


Valve said HL1 is Game of the Year of 1998? Of what? GameSpy?

There's no way Doom 3 will get GOTY.

As to who decides it, about every magasine/games website chooses their own GOTY. There's no offical award as far as I know.

What happened to GTA:SA?, halo 2?, Fable?, KOTOR II?, GT4?, MGS 3?, Sims 2?, RTW?...and most importantly...HL2?

Please, the best games of this year are YET to be released. Don't jump to conclusions. D3 might not even be game of the month ( I said might as august has just began), considering the reviews it has recently got from unbiased game website.

and I'm betting that GTA games always get GOTY awards, so prolly san andreas might get it - for all we know.

Personally I think MGS3 will be GOTY. At least I'm pretty positive it will be my GOTY, I don't know about editors though, they seem to turn into irate little 3 year olds whenever they have to sit through a cutscene (unless it's a Final Fantasy game).

Well, if they had hired a decent writer. Matt Castello, who wrote for 7th and the 11th guest, is not my idea of an accomplished writer. I wonder what id's next game will be (as they stated in another review that they are working on one) and if they will try and implement a decent story. I think they learned that the Doom series was born to be a straightforward shooter, screw the story, lets offer the fans what they are expecting, then go on to something that has true potential for a story/interactive gameplay.

i sincerely hope Far Cry doesn't win GOTY award... having said that, i don't own it.. did play the demo but damn.. with all the pple complaining about the problems with Far Cry.. how can this game win that award? if it happens that the options for GOTY award are Far Cry and Doom3, my vote would not go to Far Cry.. simple as that.

as for HL2? well...everything points to a late September/early October release but ya know.. with the delays that have gone on.. lets just worry about the game releasing first and then worry about game awards for it..

I ignore the console games for the most part. My mindset is of the game of the year awards in mags such as PC Gamer and Computer Gaming World. Besides, why should I say a console game if I have never played it?

Truthfully, the only non-fps games that I've enjoyed as much the best FPSes are the zelda series and the MGS series.

I've played plenty more, but those are the ones that stand out.

well im in the UK and d3 is not out so i downloaded it and judging from what ive seen so far i will not be buying it!!

The graphics are nice when you can see them as its too dark alot of the time. Theres some really nice effects like steam & light beams and stuff but as for the gameplay well it hasnt changed since the original!

Theres too little variety in locations so far its been corridor/room/corridor/room/vent/corridor bleh. one little jaunt outside that lasts 10 seconds and that was it. well if i play on i might get to play the 'hell' level but im losing interest. HL2 must be better than this ..!!!
