Doom 3 Movie (2006)

nope, no half life... but yah
Apparently it wasn't the studio that rated it PG-13...
And the script aparrently has enough language along to rate it R
It'd better be R.

it makes you wonder though... did the game designers model the PC and the NPCs after people in real-life... and perchance were those people actors?

The main character and a short haired Alec Baldwin do seem to look a tad alike. I hope this movie is good, please Carmack, don't let the money and bitches go to your head!

I sure hope they don't use the same philosophy of keeping it true to the original Doom. It'd be just two hours of random stuff getting shot.

Actually, that's probably what it will end up being.

i envisage it to be like the first Die Hard film. man turns up to an unassuming place...gets on with things, rather hum drum, then BLAM! hell (groan) breaks loose. i reckon it'll just be the main character fighting his way through the base to the eventual boss, then a hollywood style destroy-the-bad-guy-with-some-conveniently-placed-machinery ending.

/me hopes they get someone decent to direct it.

just out of interest who do you guys think should direct it?

Wow, pretty cool.

But im pretty unfamiliar with imdb, can users add movies there or do the staff have to do it? It could just be a rumor anyway.

Really bad idea in my opinion.

Just think of all the game to film adaptions. Tomb Raider, Mario Bros, Double Dragon, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil.

Ug, its nearly as bad as film to game adaptions, at least AvP and Riddick (from what I hear) breaks the mold.

Movies based off of games suck. You know why? Because games have shitty plots, almost all of them. Doom 3 is certainly no exception. The plots in games are almost as bad as porn movies.

Then on the other hand you have games like Metal Gear Solid or Max Payne which are way too out of the mainstream to make successful movies. They have great plots, better than most movies, but unfortunately most people are stupid and the movies would tank. I don't see any reason for these two industries to continue merging, at least until games get more mature.

For the record AvP is a game to movie adaption, not movie to game like Riddick was.

If games have bad storylines then tell me why they can continue to make the same old "Alien kills humans" movie and rake in cash? that is all Doom is and I fail to see how it will be any different than Pitch Black or any other alien/sci-fi movie. And along with Max Payne and MGS, MGS could never be a movie because there is too much story, unless you play the Metal Gear games you have no clue about the biggest points in the story, and Max Payne seems like it would make a kickass movie, cop gets revenge on those who killed his family, not that complicated.

The problem with making video games into movies is because they're simply there to make money, and thus the producers hire the cheapest people they can get to do a half-arsed job that will make millions simply by name alone. If anyone actually tried to do a good game to movie adaption, it could end up being good. It's just not happened yet. Thanks to the whole stigma of video game movies generally ending up shit, all the talented people in the industry don't want to be involved.

a PG-13 rating for a Doom movie? /me sighs
yeah... and then pple wonder why these game turned movies suck.. :x

I bet they are going to get Vin Diesel... wait hes busy doing Fast and Furious 3... I bet they are going to get "Ahhnold"... wait hes a governator.... I bet they are going to get Bruce Willis ... wait hes too old... Ahhh im stumped. :(

I think The Rock was reported as the most likely to get snapped up for the part. He does look a lot like the marine from Doom 3, which is apparently what the movie draws it's inspiration from the most.

to a point

Alien, Aliens, Preadator and Preadator 2 were all out giving a basis of plot and characters.

Aliens vs preadator was a comic book a long time before the movie, however, as far as I know all were spawned from the movies Alien and Preadator.

Thus I would say that Aliens vs Preadator was a movie tie in game. Although the movie Aliens vs Preadator has been a long time coming it has been bounced around a long time. Much like Ecks vs Sever. While the game came out before the (awful) movie, the game was based on the movie and not vise versa.

I forgot a good game, Goldeneye.

And the Rock would work if the big oaf can act.

Just because there are movies with shitty storylines doesn't make games any better. The fact is that they can make generic action movies and they are pretty much guaranteed to do well enough to pull a profit. Doom 3 probably will too, although demons invading mars through a teleporter is even dumber than any major hollywood movie I can remember. It's not going to be a good movie, it's just going to be another mundane crappy horror/action movie (just like the game would've been if not for the fancy graphics).

As you said they could never do MGS, and you're also right that they could do Max Payne. But Max Payne is a lot more than just a revenge story. If they cut out the important story details then it would turn into some crappy movie like the Punisher. Granted that movies like this have been done well in the past, such as Fight Club and Payback, but Max Payne would end up just being a shitty action movie.

Right now the best movie made from a game is Resident Evil, and it was by no means a good movie, just not terrible.

Well, there's been a Doom movie "in the works" for years now, since Doom first became popular. It was originally slated to feature Arnold, but I think he's a little busy at the moment...

Fight Club...Max Payne...Fight Club...Max Payne...

/me still doesn't see the similarities

Max Payne, at most, is a film noir revenge story. Max Payne 2 is a love story. Since when were they social commentaries on the bestial nature of 20th century man?

Fight Club conveyed a lot of the same types of details in the story that Max Payne did. I was saying it was an example of how a seemingly simple story could be told to full effect in a mainstream movie. Max Payne could be done if in the hands of the right director, but the studios will just get some cheap director to make the movie. It'll be nothing more than a crappy action movie.

Some Max Payne 1/2 spoilers:
The story is more than just revenge, it's how he's constantly battling with himself. How he is verging on the edge of insanity almost constantly, and the viewer/player isn't sure if he's already crossed that line. How both games end in a relatively depressing way. The dream sequences also wouldn't work as well as a movie.

The games just defy just about mainstream action movie I can think of. Like I said, it could be done, but it won't be.

AVP movie

Rated PG-13 for violence, language, horror images, SLIME and gore.
