I think id has biten off more than computers can chew. They are a bit too far ahead of their time.

Doom 3 itself has oly been designed with 4 players in mind but the engine itself can handle a lot more! Expect to see games built using the doom 3 engine with many more players in multiplayer...

Doom 3 is for competitive play, if you want 60 player smacktard festivals buy bf1942 and install DC.

Actually I saw in an interview John C. saying that the reason 4 person MP was because of the intense Physics and High Poly models. It was an old interview, but pretty much stated that it was an engine limitation, not a design decision.

I can't find the article, because it was when we first heard of Doom 3 at the first E3 it showed....
